Default Thick blue smoke when starting (ox66's)

When I start my motors, 225 EFI's, they spew a fair amount of blue smoke for about 15 seconds and then start burning pretty clean. Other than that they run great.

Is this normal?

Yup! That's the residue oil burning off. normal for two stroke engines. As we say up here. "Don't worry 'bout nuttin"!

Thanks, Jay.

I sure don't remember that a couple years ago.

when starting a two stroke it is normal to see blue smoke for a few seconds. The gas has evaporated leaving extra oil in cyclinders.

Ditto on the above...when I let my boat set for a week; and then start it...people start heading toward me with 'fire extinguishers'. I've stopped telling people this is normal! My wife gets a little nervious, but settles down when I tell her I can repower for $25,000. give or take.

Piddler,

That's pretty interesting. My issues seem to be exactly the same as this guy's.

They really don't go into it much though, and I'm left wondering how I may be being affected.

Big Bone, I noted he has a problem similiar to yours, thats why I posted it.

For starters, I would begin by working backwards thru the Yamaha thread. Check and clean the main ground (negative) on your engine and then check out the "dog bones" behind the 02 sensors. I run a 130 Yamaha (carbs) and personally have never removed an 02 sensor except from my Yamaha powered Ford Taurus, but it doesn't sound hard. It's too hot to fish anyway. This all falls under the heading of "good maintenance".

If it's any consolation, Blue is my favorite color!
I believe the computer injects a little shot of oil prior to start for added lubrication.
