Default 36 Yellowfin with Triple 275 Verado's

We have had a 36' Yellowfin on order for some time now and have beenwaiting of the release of the Suzuki 300. The motors keep getting pushed back andwe are about to decide on another brand of motor. Looking for some real world numbers on speed and fuel burn with triple 275 Verado's. Real world....loaded on the way to go fishing. Would like to get speed and fuel burn at different RPM's. Also, are the newer Verado's more fuel efficient?

We have crossed the Yamaha's off the list due to the lack of decent triple engine controls.

Thanks,

Chris

Yes the newer Verado's are more efficient. I think 3-4 GPH per engine at WOT but I do not know at cruising speed how efficient they are.

I don't have any performance numbers with that boat and motor but when someone gives you them make sure they are with the newer 2 star emission motors.

Chris we have had ours since 2004 email me at hgressette@yahoo.com
I would not go with the powder coated binnicals. We are getting prices for our new one now & changing a few things. The 2006 275's we are running about 61-62 with
520 gals gas, both livewells full 200lbs ice, 2 cases of drinks, approx 500lbs tackle, 4 fishermen ( 950 lbs give or take ) sea conditions up to 5 ft . If you know anyone wanting a 36 we have one for sale.
We have'nt listed it yet.

Chris,
First off I am on my 2nd boat with Verados and, thankfully, I have had zero issues. Though you probably already know, Wylie prefers the Vs as well. If you go with trips, forget the 6 lever powdercoated binnacles and get Shadow drive with the regular chrome binnacles that Merc uses with the Vs...world of difference.

On the flip side, I'm a firm believer that one should stick to what they really want esp. when it comes to a dream boat like your getting, and I say this respectfully, but maybe just wait it out for the Zukes. They'll be out soon, you may lose a few months in boating but sh*t, you'll have years to enjoy that bad azz boat your getting.

Good luck pal!!

Fubar--that means 9-12 GPH total with trips running at WOT? That's amazing.

I believe so but I am not 100% sure. This is what i have been told by several people that own Verado's so be sure to double check my numbers.

I think Fubar meant the new V's use 3-4 GPH less than the older engines at WOT! 12GPH total burn for 3-275 V's @ WOT is impossible!

You wont even get that fuel consumption with the boat on a trailer.

Yes i meant each engine burns 3-4 GPH. I guess I probably shouldn't have assumed that he knew what i was talking about. A single 150 burns more than 12 GPH!!!

Good Point!

We are Pro-Suzuki no doubt, we had a great experience with them on our Palmetto. The recent 'cold' feet we are devloping on the 300 Zukes comes from a few areas.

1) We got tied up in the 300 HPDI Fiasco...and we don't want to do that again with another new 300 HP coming on the market.
2) Suzuki has re-designed the Lower Unit on the 300's....lower units have been a problem for several of the big HP mfgs in the past...these 'could' be a problem for them on such a big HP motor and new unit.
3) The 300 HP Zuke keeps getting pushed back and back and back....sure makes me wonder why?
4) The Verado has the power steering...not on the sukuki...cost a few grand to add.
4) Verado offers 6 years of Warranty if we take deliver by March 31! That is a value of $10k and will pay for a lot of fuel and fun!

Our main concern, is we want a 45-50 mph cruise...while not drinking the fuel.....we are curious if the triple 275 Verado can provide that performance.

Here is what we roughly do -- I don't keep accurate numbers so if these numbers differ from others with the same set up -- don't shoot me.....
We fish 80-120 miles each way

4 guys / 500 + fuel / 300+ ice / Enough gear to open a tackle shop

Flat 1-3's
5000 rpm / 51-53 mph / 53-57 gph
4750 rpm / 45-48 mph / 45-50 gph
4500 rpm / 40-42 mph / 38-40 gph
4250 rpm / 37-40 mpg / 30-33 gph

Speed numbers are better when seas are from the stern quarter obviously and when it's a snotty head sea we take it easy -- rarely below 30kts though -- the verados are super responsive -- really helps when we get in real nasty stuff -- i'm throttling up and down the whole trip.

Waveguide or dryblls can give you probably more accurate numbers -- hope this helps

quad yamaha's burn the same as triple verados why would you not want the yamahas? the new triple engine controls work great. the verado shadow drive works when everything is running perfect but if one of the outside motors goes out, then you have to dock with one motor since the center motor will not function. i have seen this happen multiple times at tournaments.

TRIP YAMAHA'S ARE 5-6 MPH SLOWER THAN THE TRIP VERADO SET-UP, THE YAMAHA DOESN'T HAVE QUIT THE TORQUE TO PUNCH THROUGH THE WAVES AS WELL, JUST A LITTLE BOG. THE YAMAHA IS PROBABLY THE BEST 4 STROKE ON THE MARKET, BUT YAMAHA WILL ALWAY BE SLOWER THAN MERCURY

Is there anywhere on the web where you can view perfermance reports for the Verado on different boats? Something similar to what Yamaha has on thier website? I haven't had any luck locating the information on the Mercury website.

Thanks.

Chris,
Just curious. What are the negatives with the new tripple Yam binacle?

Like already stated, stay away from the powder coated controls as they will flake over time.

Wildlines,

There's really no savings on the warranties since Zuke is also offering 6 years.
The Zukes will get better economy based on teh few valid reports (Stamas 340, Proline 24, etc).
275 vs 300 is not a lot different in terms of lower units longevity.
The Teleflex PA system is very smoooth, very quiet, and can be turned on and off...better manual reversion than Verado.
The Zuke timing is probably more about stock than problems...they will release them when they have enough to satisfy the demand.

Harry

Harry, Its been so long that Suzuki came out and said they were coming out with a 300HP that I already forgot. I believe it was at last years Miami boat show. They also made a big announcement when they were going to go to Ocean Reef and test these engines. By the time they release them, Mercury will have the Verado 325 HP out. I guess they will be able to release them after the Verado 325 and Yamaha 350, the demand will not be as high
