Default 02-266 sailfish

going to do a repower and heard that sailfish has put out wedges to be mounted between outboard engine bracket and the transome. this is supposed to stop the props from ventilating at fast trolling speeds and sloppy seas. Has anyone mounted them yet and if so did it straighten out the problem-thanx in advance

Have mounted the wedges on my SF2660 last week. The result is very impressive. The blowout has vanished, besides in heavy following seas at 2000 plusRPM . A positive side effect is the reduced planning speed. I am now able to stay on plane at 2900 RPM and 20 MPH. You can troll the whole RPM band width -- from idle to fast troll. That's what I was looking for.

I tried several different props before, to get rid of the blowout at fast trolling, with no improvement. The wedges solved the problem.

Are you using the factory black stainless props on your 2660? At what speed were you getting blowout while trolling?

Mark,
I think by blowout he means some prop ventalation. The wedges are simply just that and are placed behind the motor brackets and put a little spacer between the bracket and the hull.

Mark,
I think the only time you will notice it is very sloppy conditions 4 to 5 footers on following seas and its in the 2000 to 3400 rpm range. I had it hapen one day in nasty crap, but if you keep the boat on plane it goes away...

Yes, I have the black ones --- and keep them. I tried the new Yamaha Reliance props and the YamahaSW 15 1/4 x 17 . Non of them worked as good as the black SS 13 3/4 x 19 .

I will post the comparison of the Black's and the Reliance's in a different post.

The blowout (ventilation) did start (before mounting wedges) at about 2000 RPM trimmed down, no tabs. This affects only the trolling ! If you accelerate to get on plane, you have no troubles at all.

But my experiences show, that wedges -- at West Marine #295835 for $32.99 -- are by far more effective than different props ( I did not try 4 bl props yet)

BTW, I mounted the wedges by my own. It took me 3 h --- you need davits or a lift though.

As Cracker said, blowout means ventilation -- the revving up of the motor with barely having grip.

I posted a photo of the mounted wedges.

To make it clear -- if you do not need to troll at speeds 10 MPH and higher, you do not need wedges or props witch provide more grip. I like higher trolling speeds and was looking for a solution. A Rep at Sailfish, who has them mounted too, gave me the recommendation.

i've installed those wedges on a few boats...they really do work, the ventilation issue will dissapear...i'm surprised the gentleman who services your rig didn't reccomend to install these ???
had a similar problem on a 25 contender, used the wedges and the problem was solved....
you know me,and you know i speak the truth-the wedges will solve your problem...

If you are trimmed all the way down and would like to go further ---- what would you do ?

The wedges expand the trim angle --- that's all IMO.

My dealer talked me out trying other Yami props. They said they have tried them all, and nothing beat the black stainless. I have since been wondering about some of the Merc props. I have also thought about having the black Yami props "polished" or "labbed". I just don't know much about it, but some people seems to get good results.
