Hello all, a good friend is looking into buying a 2000 hydrasport 20' center console with a 200 hp Johnson carb ocean pro and tandem axle trailer. All appear to be in great shape. What do you guys think about this hull. I think it is a vector hull that was discontinued in 2000 or 2001 it looks great w/ euro transom high bow etc... just like the current 24' vector cc but smaller. It is definately not a sea horse or lightning series hull design. Also what do you guys think about that motor. I know it is going to suck up lots of gas, but do you think they are reliable, can he get another 5 yrs out of it without major repairs? I know this is all subject to how the boat and motor have been maintained, just looking for general opinions on both the boat and motor good, bad, ugly, let me have it.
My personal experience w/ 2001 225 Johnson was great, had it for three yrs and 650 plus hrs with no real problems other than the hole burnt in my pocket @ the fuel dock.
That is a great hull - deep vee and rides like a champ. It is a Vector hull. The layout of that boat kind of sucks, though. The baitwell is tiny and so are the fishboxes. The Johnson is a reliable engine, but ias you said, it's a gas hog. There is no reason why that engine shouldn't have a lot of life left in it.
I think those originally were paired with 150 motors, so the upgrade is nice to the 200. I have a 235HP Johnson HO 2-stroke and it is a hefty tank of a performer and extremely reliable. Thirsty yes, but it will last! As far as the hull design, yep Vector and deep-Vee as mentioned, good overall boat. Price seems OK - friend bought a 2000 Hydra-Sport earlier this year and paid around 16,500 for it with a 150 and trailer. So, depending on the shape, the hours -- it might be a decent deal.
Good price! Good Hull! Motor could run another 10 years! It couldbe gone in 20 hours. It is kinda a love or hate relationship with those motors. If it comes to the point were youare pumping hundreds of dollars into keeping that motor runningyou need to repower to a 4 stroke.I think that hullwould last you a very long time and you would be very happy with it.
I have a 1999 20' vector CC with one of the infamous 200hp Evinrude Fichts on it.
Just bought the boat last year and put on about 175 hours - tons of fun.
lots of trolling, 50mph joy rides. Took her 25 miles off shore. This boat
is a tank - beautiful ride... I love it. Here the best part: flawless year -
no problems.
I think that is a great price for a incredible boat.
the gas tank on the vector is about 115 gallons - even burning more
fuel, it takes forever to burn off a full tank.
There is one thing that I don't like about the boat - in the bilge, there
is a shelf (access through panel inside console)
that catches water ... it would have been nice if the
shelf had drain holes and could be used for storage.
I have a 94' Vector that is a tank. It has a Johnson 150 Oceanrunner that smokes a bit, and drinks alot of fuel but is pretty much bullet proof. My motor has over 800 hrs. I see you are from CT, so am I. The boat handles Long Island Sound well. I have been in some pretty snotty waves and with the deep v hull it handles great. It is a heavy boat, and built to last. The vector series is heads and shoulders above the ligntening series.
I have the 2250 with the same power. Very similar hull design. It's a very well made boat and is holding up very well. It's almost 9 years old and the gelcoat looks better than some 4 year old boats I've seen. Biggest difference between the 2000 and 2250 is the transom. The 2250 has a cutout transom and makes it feel 4 feet bigger rather than 2. I'm at 650 hours on the motor and still going strong.
