real-world (?) fuel-economy numbers 150 HP HPDI Finally, my fuel-flow meter works, and so I thought you might be interested in some numbers I got. Boat is a 1989 208 (20-ft) Grady White Overnighter; 2004 HPDI 150 HP with about 35 hours; 3/4 fuel, me alone, air temp low 40s, water low 50s; light wind, about half-strength seawater (mid Chesapeake Bay):
900 rpm 4.1 mph, 1.5 gph, 2.8 mpg
1500 rpm 6.3 mph, 2.3 gph, 2.7 mpg
2000 9.8 3.5 2.8
3100 23.0 5.8 4.0
3500 27.6 6.6 4.2
3800 30.2 7.4 4.1
4000 32.2 8.1 4.0
4400 36.1 10.2 3.5
5100 (wot) 43.1 15.0 2.9
Except for the low end, where my mpg numbers were on the low side, these numbers look just like the reports I've looked at published for this motor on similar boats. A good 30% better than my carbureted 150.
