Default 39 Venture vs 38 Jupiter

I am down sizing from a 48 Viking and considering these two CC's. I fish the North East Canyons and typically run 70 nms plus! I ran the 38 Jupiter and thought it was a good running boat but was a little wet down sea (weather was 15-20 kts in the bay)....maybe the trim tabs weren't set properly. I never ran the Venture 39 which I am trying to set up a sea trial for. Also I was fortunate to run the new 33 Contender with both twins and triple F250's. I am still smilling from the ride and handling of this awesome hull. Any thoughts regarding these boats?

Dont know much about any of those boats except they both have excellent fit and finish. You might also want to check out the new edgewater 38 based off of the sterling 38 hull and the fountain 38. The venture costs a bit more then the Jupiter but the venture seems more suited for fishing. What year viking?

I would suggest you also consider the new 42 Yellowfin that is coming out and will be ready for viewing at the Miami boat show. I got a ride in Wylie Nagler's (owner of company) personal 36 YF and it blew my mind away. The ride is simply amazing. Alot of guys in your situation are considering a move to the 42 YF because you get the versatility of a CC but, according to Wylie, you get an incredible amount of cabin space in the new 42 coming out, plus you get speed. Don't have to leave so early to the canyons and get back early...fishing time the same. Here is a link that has some preliminary information...good luck nonetheless.

Thanks, and I agree. I'm just not sure if I want a larger boat but I agree with you that the 33T runs great!

Thanks for the info and the link on the YF....I'll check it out. 42' seems pretty big for a cc?

Also Bahama (run by a guy that used to be at Venture) will be coming out with a 41'.

Good luck. Plenty of great boats to choose from.

run a search in the photo section I believe....a guy just took delv of his 39 venture with trip F250's....great pics and fuel numbers were listed.

If these 2 boats were my choices I would go with the Venture. It's fishing layout and cockpit is top notch. I am sure I will get bashed for this, but as nice as the New Contender 33T boat is, it is not in the same league as the other 2.

Yeah...thats what makes this decision so tough but so much fun nevertheless! Living in the North East (Long Island, N.Y.) though, we don't really have many dealers that carry the Yellowfins, Sea Vee"s etc. Contender and Regulators seem to be the most popular...and I am not a fan of the Grady's...Just too slow. With a very short fishing season us Northeners need quick and good service or we could miss out on the few bites we get if problems arise. So a good and responsive dealer is very important to me.

If your friend has twins on his 33T ask him if it will plane on one motor.

I ran the 33T with F250's and I couldn't get it over 12 kts on one engine. However with the triples running on 2 motors you could run almost as fast as with the triples.

Venture hands down. No contest. If you want to run fast and save some money, get a 36 contender with some warranty left on the motors, for the money it is hard to beat. Don't wast your time on the 33t, the 36 is a better boat. If you want the finest then the Venture is your boat without question.

All the contender dealers are saying the 33t is a better riding and better layed out boat than the 36. I would not think they are just making this up but I have no first hand experience.

I had a chance to run a 39 in some big water and all I can say is WOW! The ride was incredible, the weight of the boat just powers through waves while throwing a massive wall of water out both sides. With proper trim, we stayed dry in a following sea without a problem.

If you are thinking Contender 33t or Contender 36 open, unless you are going with twins, get the 36 open with the triples.
If you want the finest, get the 39 Venture.

Here is my experience.

I run a 39 Venture quite often (2-3 times a week).
I have also fished on the Contender 33T numerour times.
I own a 31 Contender.

The Venture rides better than the Contender but the 33T is a very impressive boat.
The Venture will eat up a head sea like no other but you have to be careful in a big following sea. It is also fairly wet in a following sea.
The Contender is better suited for fishing with a better layout and will run circles around any other Contender out there. The 36 Contender is a submarine compared to this boat and believe me , I have many hours on a 36 Contender.

The Venture is a huge boat inside and with triple 275 verado's, it also burns quite a bit of fuel if you run it hard (87 GPG@WOt)
The 33T with Triple 250 yamaha's will run 60 MPH burning 60 GPH wide open.

If it were my money, I would own the 33T just because I like the way it is laid out for hardcore fishing. Plus it cost's about half the price of the Venture, burn's less fuel, has more livewell's (the 2 that I fish each have 5 wells), and is faster!

However, if you are going from a sporty to a CC, you will probably like the Venture better. The Venture still fishes awesome and is built extremely well.
That 39 Venture is the most impressive Center console I have ever driven!!!!

I had a chance to check out the Jupiter at the recent Norwalk Show.....some details missing for the price: No lift assists on several hatches....various hardware components looked light to my eye. Have not ridden either but I was surprised that a premium boat was missing the lift assists.....present on all production boats like Grady, Pursuit, Hydra etc. Made me kind of question where the extra money was going.

You owe it to yourself to crawl through a Venture, all the nooks and crannies that most other manufacturers keep out of sight. The console gives you access to everything behind the dash through three spearate doors. The wiring is impeccable, routed neatly, and zip tied every few inches to provide excellent support in rough weather. All of the hatches are guttered with gaskets, finished on both sides, and are thickly insulated with foam core built into the hatch, not to mention a thickness of close to two inches. They close tightly with lockable stainless pull latches and do not rattle. The amount of storage this boat has is incredible, it will slowly almost anything with 4 7' fishboxes and two large lazarette storage areas as well (the finished bilge in the rear of the boat and below deck access in front of the console). If you can;t fit all your stuff in this boat, then you're gonna need a freighter to follow you around! The bottom is solid glass over an inch thick, as are the stringers. The hull sides and decks are cored and the bottom has a layer of kevlar that runs from chine to chine the full length of the hull for unsurpased strength. All of this produces a heavy, solid boat that can still run 57 with triple 275s and 55 with a tower thanks to the efficient bottom design with a large keel pad and built-in transom setback. The new Verados are more fuel efficient in the upper RPM range as well, burning around 24 gph vs. 28 of the older engines. BTW, all of the compartments throughout the boat are lighted for night-time activities and have gas-assist stainless struts to hold the hatches open. Sorry for the long post, I just had the opportunity to go through these boats and going from Fountain, it really is incredible to see such a high level of quality in a center console!
