ive been hearing a lot of bashing of this motor is it reallt that bad?

I seriously doubt you will get any materially new information with a new thread.

hello. i am a yamaha tech and have delt with the 250 hpdi.i have personally replaced about a dozen power heads since it was introduced. not all were bad though but alot were. as of this time i dont think they even offer that engine any longer just the 200 and 300. have'nt seen any other problems with the 300 or 150-200 hpdis. just make sure if you have one make sure youre oil link rod is adjusted perfectly and let the engine idle with it disconnected at full oiling when you take it out of storage.
