How long have you had your Cat? What model & are you still happy with your choice? Would you choose a different boat if you could or would you stick with the boat you have?
Damn.. what a loaded question.... Glacier Bay 260 ... 4 1/2 years...pushing 1000 hours... Would have done a few things differently but would have the same hull.
I have had a Kevlacat for 5 years with no problems. No wiring issues, no loose screws, nothing. The boat was used 1 or 2 times a week. Also look at the prowler cats.
My advice is that you get max or close to max power for wehatever cat you decide on. The most frequent error I have seen cat owners make is not having enough power on their boats.
gb "may" ride a little better, wc has the style and a good ride. either would be a good choice. was on a pro cat one time, and was disappointed with the ride and fit/finish vs. gb and wc.
I really only wanted to know how you felt about your cats after having them a few years & are you still happy with the performance/choice of boats. Blue Marlin & KO got it right. I must not have been clear with the question, sorry about that.
I've had a WC 266 for three years and still love it. Yes, I would buy again. Not knocking deep V's, as I've had several, and they have advantages too, but everything considered, ride, space, storage, spray, the cats have it.
I had a twin vee for 3 years and really like the cat ride. I just got a wordlcat last week. It's all about what you can afford. There is a cat for every budget, you have to decide which strengths and weaknesses of each company are important to you when choosing. The cat ride is outstanding compared to most v hulls. The only way I will ever own a v-hull is if I can afford a carolina style sportfisher. That isn't going to happen anytime soon!
I bought the GB(260) with yamah 150's(hpdi) 12 months ago. I would look a little harder at the larger center consoles(ie 31'+ Contender) if I was starting over, but for a boat less than 30' I would not change. No one wants to admit they made a mistake like I did before the GB. My prior boat was a 26' Century, and was very rough riding. Good luck. Remember to test ride/drive before buying.
Catdog is right...take a look and ride them all, and depending on your tastes and bank account get what you like. Because of the type of fishing I do and my income, I am a small-cat persons. But, the cat I have totally blows away the similar-sized monos I have owned in ride, confort, and safety. One thing I discovered with a cat is long boat rides are much less of a burden...you will be much less tired after a long cat trip as opposed to a similar sized mono. I think it is the less pounding that makes the biggest difference.
KO hit the nail on the head... I can.. ( and have ) fished a 16 hour day 100 miles offshore... came home, showered and took the better half out to dinner.... was i tired.. yes.. was I beat to death.. hell no.
We just put in our order for a WC 270 Express. I sea trialed both GB and WC. The GB had twin Suzuki 140's the WC had 200 Honda's.
Both boats rode very well with the edge to GB in 3-4 ft seas. I'm told that they tend to ride wet if it gets sloppier than that. But the style and layout of the WC Express were better in my opinion. I took a WC out a rough inlet in 6 footers and put it through the paces. It was amazing.
As stated earlier, underpowering is a problem. The WC 27 with 200's ran at an amazing 47 mph at 5000 RPMs and the flow scan showed 1.3 MPG at that speed. We got 1.5 MPG at 4500.
Yall are bigger than I am but the seacat has been a good boat. Not fast but steady and reliable. No problems. And feels safe 60 miles offshore. No other 21 can say that!
