Default Yamaha Fuel Management Question

Had my first chance to run my new to me2001 23 Regulator with twin 150 hpdis. After about 40 minutes , the starboard engine water in fuel icon came on in my Fuel management guage. Boat ran fine during the entire run. I was told by the local mechanic , the icon in the fuel managment guage is tripped by the Racor type filters located in the bilge and the icon in the tach is tripped by the filters under the cowling. He showed me a Racor filter with wires attached to the filter bowl. I have Racor 3227 filters with clear bowls and I dont see any wires anywhere. I might be missing something , as access in not great back there. Any input is greatly appreciated.

The wires for those water sensors are part of the FM sender harness. Make sure they are not touching each other. They will be located by the FM senders wherever they are mounted in your boat. They water sensor wiresare a white with aredstripe wire and a black wire. Sometimes when these wires are not used (your case) the installer will tape them up. They can get moisture trapped uner the tape and any kind of connection between those two wires and the indicator will go off.

Or...your Fm gauge is faulty.

There is only one water in fuel indicator on the FM gauge. Your FM gaugeturns on with the strb key switch?

I have had the same issues with mine. My sensor wires are not connected near the flow sensor. When they get wet, the icon appears. I have learned to ignore it.
