i am thinking about buying a key west 196 bay reef with a merc 150 optimax. i'm new to the saltwater fishing other than skinny water reds and shrimping. the dealer that i have been talking to wants 29600 for the boat . this includes a 80 lb 24v trolling motor and a $550 gps/ sonar unit and also an aluminium trailer that seems to be really well built. my question is if you think that this is a decent price or not. any help would really be appreciated.
yeah, thats out the door and ready to fish. it seems a little high to me but i'm new to this. i'm going to a couple of dealers in the area and see how they compare.
29,600 sure can buy alot more boat in my opinion, having it rigged and ready to go is nice (trolling motor/elec, etc) But I would think you can get more (bigger boat) for 30k???

Maybe a bit high, but depends on where you live and what the tax rate is.
Seen the 2006's in the range of 24-25K with F150 and aluminum trailer and most of the available options over the summer. Add another $2K or so for the electronics and trolling motor (maybe a bit more if he is including onboard charger) and you are at about $26-27K plus tax and title. Dealer prep and shipping would already be in that price, not an additional cost. Optimax should actually be cheaper than an F150.

thanks for the input. as for the bigger boat for the buck, if I went bigger, I think it would possibly hurt the shrimping and skinny water reds. if I could get as good a boat with the same layout for less, that would be great.
Skrimp... I bought a 2005 216 Bay Reef with a 200 OX66, aluminum tandem trailer for 26,999. I bought at Jack's Boats in Perry Florida. Very satisfied with boat, motor, and dealer. Hope this helps!
Here's a link to a nearly new '06 with 41 hours, which could possibly be bought for less than asking price (no affiliation- I simply saw an ad and your post on the same day):
22.9K? i'd like to see that one. for what its worth, i just bought one this past weekend. Its an '05 boat, motor, and trailer. Has a F150 Yamaha, Aluminum trailer, 80lb Riptide, VHF, CD/Radio, Dual Battery Charger, and a Lowrance 337C GPS/Sonar. Paid 22k even and think I did well.

That price does seem a little friend. I think people were buying that boat for around $25-26 w/out TM's, vhf but most other options. Someone should be really ready to move an '06 if you found one of those.
I bought an '04 with virtually no hours on it. Nice boat so far, a few things I woudl change if I could bu overall I have been pleased.
Anybody other owners got the real draft on this boat? I got one but have not had it in the skinny water yet.
