Default Johnson Tilt / Trim Problem

The tilt / trim motor on one of my 1992 200hp Johnson failed. I think no big problem because it has happened before on the starboard engine. Pull boat out
of water to do the job but I can't break loose the manual release fitting so I can't lift the engine to replace the bad motor. Tried everthing including a impack
driver. Kept trying things until the ends on the screwdriver slot broke off ! Now what ... anyone had this problem .. any ideas ?? Thanks

Mine did the same thing...I posted a question on the Marine Doctor's website about he and his response was...just leave it alone...I needed to drive the two pins out and remove the entire tilt assembly...was more grunt work then anything...once that was out, I simply removed the old tilt motor from my 1991 120hp Johnson and broke 2 bolts! Took it to one of the local guys near my house and they pulled them out no charge...great guys...anyway...I just needed to suppot the engine with a 2 x 4 while I worked on it...it would have been much easier with a second set of hands but when all was said and done, it took me about 4 hours to do the entire job...

Good luck...

Try posting this question on iboats.com under the Johnson/Evinrude forum...lots of knowledge there!
