Default laying fiberglass

I just layed some fiberglass on my boat hull and it looks pretty good and it set up real nice. Is there anything I need to do besides sanding it to get a smooth finish?

The spot in question was discovered on the hull while prepping for bottom coat. I am just going to prime it and paint it but thought I would check before doing so.
Thanks

you need to brush some gelcoat on the fiberglass repair to seal it

You don't need gelcoat, I don't think. What kind of resin did you use? Gelcoat is just polyester or vinylester resin with pigment in it. Epoxy doesn't hold up to the sun's UV rays, but you're going to paint it anyway. I think you're fine with just painting it if you're happy with the repair otherwise.

Prior to sanding, just wash the surface with some water and a scotbrite pad and then go over it with a clean cloth dampened with acetone to dry. This is done to remove any surface dirt (dust, sand, blush, etc.) so that you have a clean surface to sand/paint. Sanding tends to gind in surface "dirt" rather than remove it.

From your post, it sounds like this is below the waterline. If you are barrier-coating the rest of the bottom, you should also barrier coat this area at the same time. Gel-coating the area is not necessary, regardless of whether you are going to barrier coat or not.
