Default Polar CC Windshields

I was very impressed with the quick release fastners used on windshields on the new Polar 17 CC displayed at the Virginia Beach Boat Show.

I'm trying to figure out how to make my Sea Hunt 172 CC 's windshild easy to remove, or at least fold down. The Sea Hunt folks use screws and nylon washers. It's not made to take off every time you push your boat into the the garage (clear the door) after a day of fishing.

Anyone out there have any experience with the Polar quick release device? "Stretch" tells me the release is called a Dzus fastner and they are used primarily to attach the cowlings on general aviation aircraft.

I don't want to crack my windshield.

"inkahoots" suggested using SS piano hinge and two latches on the sides. That's sounds possible, too.

Any suggestions or words from experienced Polar owners?

The boat is due in in a few weeks and I plan tohave the windshield left unattached.

Please don't tell me I should have bought a Polar. Nice boat, but above my price range.

Hi Hokie, I think the dzus fasteners would be the easiest as far as installation goes. I went to their website but couldn't find much in the way of usefull information for your particular application though. I bet your boat has little spacers between the windshield and the console? This could be a problem unless they make fasteners for the combined thikness of the windshield and spacer. Also every time you remove the windshield those spacers will fall off, unless you can glue them to the back of the windshield.
The reason I liked the hinge idea is because there would be no loose parts. It would take a little more enginuity(sp?) though and may not look as good.
Another idea would be to mount a strip of starboard on the front of the console. It would be about an inch high and as long as needed to cover the screwholes in the console. Then a short piece on each side also. The top of this strip would have a 45 deg. chamfer cut along its edge. Same thing on the windshield but mounted with the chamfers on the bottom. Then a couple of latches to hold it down. All you would have to do is set the windshield in place and latch it. Only problem is it would set the windshield a little higher than stock, I'll keep thinking.

Weird comment since I think Sea Hunt is viewed more highly than Polar (though Polars more recent offerings are nice).

I bought the boat new last saturday. The Sea Hunt looks like a lot of boat for the money. The Polar looked great too, but was $2,500 more than the Sea Hunt. What can I say? They both were 17 CC's with a 90 Yamaha 2-stroke. After careful consideration, the Sea Hunt was my choice.
I never made an offer on the Polar, but I'm not regreting my decision.

Not that I need to tell you this....but you made a fine decision. If the only thing you wish for is a detachable windshield then it sounds like you got a boat to fit your needs well.

Brucee W, you talked me into the Sea Hunt, so I sure hope you know your boats!

The 17 CC Sea Pro is a really nice boat but a little too small. For an additional 1K, the Sea Hunt is larger, and had more amenities because of the show.

This is my first glass boat. I can't wait until delivery!
