Judge Yachts shares some of their boat molds with Eastern Boats in Milton, NH - http://www.easternboats.com. Many of them are the same or similar to the boats from Sisu and were originally designed by Royal Lowell of Maine - http://www.gwi.net/lowell/index.html.
The Judge boats are generally a little better finished than the Eastern boats but they cost a little more too. I know a guy in my area who had an Eastern 22 built last year, it's essentially the same boat as the Judge 22.
They are built on MD's eastern shore. I've looked at the site and like their 22' CC, but they don't list some specs like deadrise. I've been meaning to take a trip over, but I haven't ahd the time
I'd like to hear from an owner on the hull's performance and wether or not it could be considered a bay or ocean boat..
I see several that fish near the Bay Bridge on a regular basis. The 27 Chesapeake is what I envy. I am told that the quality is that of a top custom boat. If it were not for my family cruising obligations, it would be my boat of choice.
Man I just looked at that boat and started droolin, nice looks to that thing!!!
I too was looking for deadrise etc, but would be willing to bet that thing is around 18 deg or so judging from the shape. Sweet....now if only they made a cat like that
Clicked on the site and thought the guys at Eastern had put up a new website. These boats are likely displacement hulls like the Easterns. Makes them very seakindly and stable, will run comfortably through slop without backing too far down off the throttle but are going to have a lower top end and cruise than a similar boat with a planing hull. They'll run with moderate power since they don't really get up on plane. Regardless of the draft numbers they are fairly flat aft. Most of the draft is due to the full keel (in Easterns 22' and up) or partial keel on smaller ccs. Beautiful lines on an elegant boat.
If I fished outside more I'd have one just like it!
A couple of the boats on the Judge site are photographed with Eastern logos!
I realize this is about the 22' Judge but maybe this will help with some insight.
Bill( Judge Yachts) posted on the Tidal Fish offshore forum some info about the 27' Express model...
quote:I would give up 2-3 knots on a rough day in a 24-27 foot boat to have an 80% improvement in stability and fishability at rest or trolling. I have run 60-80 miles offshore in a Carolina Classic, 29' Blackfin, 35' Cabo, 27' JUDGE YACHTS and may others. On a snotty day none of these boats rode well above 23 knots. Some pop wheelies but land soft, the others had pounding sounds that you hear more than feel, and did not pop wheelies but ran a knot or two slower. The later were far more comfortable fishing and were easier to catch fish in.
It comes down to what is important, Dealers can sell deep-v boats easier because all you do is RIDE. Is the ride all that is important, or is fishability as important too?
The 27' we are building has a variable DEADRISE, 10 degrees stern up to 48 degree bow. This is called a "warped" bottom. Deep entry to mid-ship then a flatter stern.
Pounding is from bow to mid ship.
The boat is not going to be the best riding,
but it will be better all around than most others in its class. And yes, it will be trailerable.

Like 5Bucks said, I believe if you called and asked you will find they all are somewhere at or under 12 degrees, even with the planing hulls. I could be mistaken so don't read it as gospel. For a planing hull I think I'd consider them a bay boat, and pick my days. IMO, stability is nice but you gotta get to and from to fish it... at a reasonable pace under not so perfect days. Jus' my 1 1/2 cents worth.
Been looking at the downeast style and the Judge 27 D/E has a rare outboard option for this style of boat. Was thinking if you put real power on it how will that semi-displacement hull handle the speed as they are generally kept at 22 / 25 knots top with the usual inboard/i/o power. I would have thought they had a deep vee hull for the outboards ( since boat weighs 5300 lbs easy for a pair of 200s to push fast ) or are they designed for lower hp outboards with a semi-displ. hull? Still, they look nice and would like more detail on the deadrise and performance with different engine options..sorry got off-topic on the 22 '.
