I own a house on a lake and have been looking for a smaller boat. I wanted something unique and something with a pilothouse. I came across Targa. Its a european boat with a lot of great features and it seems like real nice use of space. I was thinking about their 31. Any idea on them from anyone? I think it would be a nice boat to kick around n the lake with. Seems pretty solid and with twin diesel I.O's its just perfect for shallow draft. Id still be keeping the post out on the ocean and possibly using this out there too.
Yes, I am looking at the 31 with twin 575 Volvo's they have not done this before they said they can do a v drive set up but will have to see if the motors would fit. They also recommended D6 350 Volvo Diesels. They say the boat will run out about 35knot cruise, 41 knot top end. Wohoo we can still ski behind it! IPS 500's would have been great. We will see I guess.
Great boats. Sturdy Finnish craftmanship To be honest (and not biased because I'm Finnish), I'd say that they're probably among the best built boats available. The hull is three inches thick and foam filled, and the outer glassfiber layer is almost one inch. Very, VERY, solid construction. Built like a tank, to use a phrase often heard here. They can take about any kind of seas that you throw at them. As an anecdote: during one of our trips to northern Norway, we got caught in a bit sloppier weather than we'd actually cared for. I'd guess 25-30 knot winds, 4-5 foot seas. So, plodding along at 4-5 knots and still taking a beating, the Norwegian Coast Guard blows by us (300-400 yards away) in a 30 or 31 Targa at around 25 knots, and I swear, that darned boat didn't even notice the waves. It just went by like on rails.
Targas are used by police, coast guard, fire departments etc, so I guess that says something about their quality. Their only downside as far as I'm conserned is price. They're really quite expensive boats, and for the price, they're not very "flashy" or "luxurious" with regards to look and interior. They have that workboat-thing about them. Still, if you're OK with those issues, you won't be disappointed.

Your perception of a "smaller boat" to "kick around on the lake" is definitely different than mine...
I use the phrase loosely. My last boat up here was a 47 Fountain and im done with the speed thing. I dont hav a lot of time to use the boat so I need a pilothouse to make the most out of it. I did a quick internet search and I like the look and speed of these. Idefinetly want diesel power. If anyone knows of any other boats that are like this please, make a suggestion. I am open to different brands. I just don't want that parker look. Theres nothing wrong wth them, I like th boats and they are well built but just not my fancy as far as looks.
Just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me what a Targa costs over there? The 31 has an MSRP of around $285k over here with twin 260 VP diesels. That's without any additional equipment...
