Default RPMs For a Yamaha 225 4 stroke

I am running about 5800 RPMs in my boat and I was told that might be to high for a 4 stroke. I have a 19 pitch prop and I like to run wide open. The motor in not screaming when I am running. I would like to know if that is ok are do I need an 21 pitch prop? dose anybody know about this?

6000 is the top and it will limit at 6100 so you're well within the range. Most people like to be near the top of the range so I wouldn't go with a 21 I think you're about right with the 19

Ours runs about 5800 loaded up with gas, folks, ice & gear... and goes to 6000 if lightly loaded.. sounds like you're ok. Max rec. RPM is 6000.

Your numbers are right on .You don't want to big of a pitch this will make the motor work harder.
YOu should always try to get to peak rpm's at wot.

I ran mine to 6100 for about 10 seconds yesterday. Normally keep her at 4100 or so when fast cruising.

I like to run wide open.
Start looking at 2 stroke motors for your re-power

Sounds about right. 5900 rpm's on my F250. It is within the range. But I agree, I wouldn't make a habit of long periods there on the curve.
