Sorry to post this in the boating forum, I tried the Carolina and Georgia Forums, but with no luck.
Today I searched from Hartwell to Anderson....(towing the boat) with no luck trying to find some Live Blue back herring......the one place I used to go isnt open (Tugaloo's Fishing Hole in Hartwell, GA). If anyone knows of a place (hopefully near the dam/lower end of the lake) Id love to hear about it. Hoping to go again tomorrow (maybe actually put the boat in the water!!!!).....if anyone wants to go fishing, and can show a Hartwell newbie the ropes, lets ride!!!
Thanks for any help,
Brad

I don't fish but I'd be willing to bet the store on Hwy 24 just above Portman Shoals would have live herring. If not them I'm confident you could find someone on Hwy 24 between Portman and Anderson. I saw your post in the Carolina section but as I say I don't do much fishing.
As for the dam area, why don't you call the guys over at Hartwell Marina and ask them. Surely someone in the city of Hartwell sells them.
Good luck.

Walden, I'm generally comin' in Portman end of lake and there are two on that end...the store, mentioned above is Lake Hartwell Fishing & Marine (formerly Garrett's) and following Hwy 24 toward the interstate, the Bait Shop is on right just off 24...I know you're lookin' for something closer to dam-end, but these are the only ones I know about...
Thanks for the help guys, I called Tugaloo this morning, (they were just closed on Tuesdays) but they did sell their tanks, but to a fella just down the road in Reed Creek, they said it was just over the first bridge crossing the lake.....Im headed out in about 30min to check it out.....(They said if he's not there....theres a serve your self box, where ya put your money in and take what ya need!!!!, thats my kinda bait shop, open 24/7!!)
Hopefully I can find fish too.

Just as an FYI about the blue backs near the lower end of the lake....Im back home again on vacation.....went out to the lake yesterday to check if they are still selling bait, same guy up Hwy 51 from where it meets 29 in Hartwell......its about 5 or 6 miles, the guy has a sign in front of his yard "Blue Back Herring" just pull in the drive, and he has the tanks on a self serve basis in the red building behind his house, good news is, now he has large and small trout too, honor system, pay cash!!
Put in at Crawfords Ferry, plenty of water there, no ramp though......marked TONS of bait in some of the backs of the creeks, Im hoping to get as many trips as I can in the few weeks, anybody else fishing Hartwell?????
I'll be back out there Thursday, in the freezing a$$ cold.....but hey, its a vacation.
