Why would you not want to have a forum for the Great Lakes? The argument that there are "too many forums" is pretty weak. Bandwidth and server space are very cheap commodities these days. I would think that if Wiley wanted to have the best boating forum on the Internet, he would want to include such a huge boating population...especially to increase exposure for his advertisers.
According to the 2004 statistics I found,
the Great Lakes region has 5 out of the Top Ten states for boat registration. And that does not include NY which has both saltwater and Great Lakes boaters. Here they are:
#2 Michigan 944,800
#4 Minnesota 853,448
#6 Wisconsin 605,467
#8 Ohio 414,938
#10 Illinois 393,856
Total - 3,212,509
also, #7 NY 519,066 - but only some of those boats are in the GL
Plus these numbers also do not include the huge number of Canadian boaters that use the Great Lakes.
Only 3.2 million boats...that is unimportant?
And these are not all 14 ft. aluminum rowboats or bassboats either...go to any port on the Great Lakes and you will see sportfish, express cruisers, motoryachts, trawlers and fishing boats by the thousands.
I agree with Freebyrd that THT is a great source of knowledge for all boaters...too bad Wiley is not more interested in appealing to other areas of the country.
