Default Worst outboard motor ever made?

It's got to be my Johnson 150 ocean pro. The reed valve went out in one year. The motor stalls when hot and shut off for a short period of time then restrarted. It smokes so bad at slow speeds that I get a bad headache and feel like throwing up, not to mention my eyes burn. It's a year 2000. I have spent 600 in repair bills on it. How can any manufacturer in the year 2000 put out such a poor product not to mention at such a high cost? Now I know why omc went out of business. I'll never buy another product that says Johnson, Evinrude or anything even close to it! Any similar experiences? Anything to say to the contrary? I like my Seaswirl hull though.......

Try a PAIR on 94's bought in 97 with "low hours".
First goes the port powerhead after about 75 hours, after installing new powerhead, port lower unit rips 50 hours later (40 miles offshore). after installing a new lower unit on the port engine, I notice a noise in the starboard lower, pull the drain plug to find it full of metal(lowers were serviced when port unit installed). so I send that one to florida to be rebuilt and put it back on. So what else can go wrong??? Try a new powerpack on both, a rectifier on the starboard, three coils and then a flywheel on the port. All of this and we have only put 300 hours(maybe) since we got them. We run them at 3500- 4200 rpms and troll at 1400. We don't dog them and have them serviced often. All in all the starboard engine has been ok, but the port is a dog.

Default Worst outboard motor ever made?

1987 Mercury 75hp. couldnt keep stators in it and the hardest to start out of any i have ever owned when cold starting..... A 1985 Mercury 50hp was the best i ever owned. Easy starting and purred like a kitten while trolling all day..I have also had good luck with johnsons and rudes and currently have 1 of each.

I have a Johnson 30hp on the back of my Sea Ark. That thing purrrrs like a kitten. Never had any problems with it. I would take that motor back to where ever you bought it and demand money back or another new motor. Remember,..it's your money and you can get a lemon with any thing you buy, anything!!

I have a 2000 150 Ficht Evinrude on a 20' Hydra Sports Vector. The engine had 90 hours on the engine when I bought it, and I've only put on another 30 or 40 in the last few months. I have just returned from a week in the Keys and it hasn't missed a beat....yet. No smoke, great fuel economy, great starting and idling, trolling or whatever. I was very hesitant to buy this engine, but was reassured by several mechanics, owners, etc. I have my fingers crossed that this engine will hold up for a while....

Haven't had a bad outboard (Yammies and OMC's) -just hope you guys all (and I asume you have since you're smart enough to be here) contacted the dealer and factory direct if you thought it was a lemon type problem.

Now, tires and cars.. well then I could tell you some stories!!!!

should be a good thread - its nice to hear the good AND the bad in order to get THE HULL TRUTH!!!

I would think he would at least be able to recover all cost incurred so far from the party where he bought the motor, at least!! I have 5 year warrantys on both motors. (Yami and OMC)

I also have friends @ my marina that only buy these motors because they liked & trusted them so much.
the only bad thing I've heard is they're a bit thirsty on the fuel..
$ 600 bucks, out of warranty I suppose that isnt too bad , sh*t happens, maybe you've got a lemon.
Not to start naming names but I bet there's outboards made that were much worse then the oceanpros...

Without a doubt, the worst designed engine ever built was the OMC Sea Drives. I'm a big OMC fan, and have owned Johnson and Evenrudes for 30 years, and still own one boat with a Johnson, but these anchors were on the back of my current boat when I purchased it, used, and from my understanding, all of the boats that this company built came with the Sea Drives. I ran them for 5 years before I pulled them off, hung a bracket and put Yam's on the back

93 200 Ocean Pro still running strong, like a top. I've had some problems with the power tilt & trim switches, that's it. Hope mine makes the 2000 hr. mark.

2000 Johnson 115- No problems yet start fine and runs all day with no issues, doesn't even smoke bad for a carb. I only use the Evinrude oil in it. Hoepfully it will be like a Timex watch.

I never heard of one of these but a guy gave me a 2 hp ESKA. It has less power than a minn kota
trolling moter and sounds like a chain saw on meth
amphetamine. He won't let me pay him for it and worse yet he won't take it back.

The 150hp, 5 cylinder Force is the worst. It had a recall and a little problem of braking off the crank just below the flywheel, so when you are just cruising it would throw a heavy steel frizbee thru the hood for you to catch.
