I'm looking at the 242 Abaco as well and am going to take a look at the Pursuit 2470 today. I love the look of the Scout 242 and Aboater seems to really love his. I would really like to have a boat with twin screws and the Scout dealer said that the 242 could be mounted with twins, he suggested against it saying it doesn't run all that great with twins. I would be anxious to hear what others have to say on twins on the 242 and any pros and cons on the Pursuit 2470.

When researching the 235 (same hull as the 242) prior to my purchase, I was also told that twins (115's) would not be the optimal setup. Since then, the boat's max hp rating (on 2004 models) has increased to 300 hp (up from 250), so I suppose twin 150's would be an option. However, the weight issue would still concern me, and like Scout and their dealers suggest, I think the boat is better suited to a large single (the new 300 hpdi would be interesting). I have kicked around the idea of adding a small kicker motor, but I haven't researched it enough and don't know the typical weights of the little kickers.
Outside of the engine setups, the Scout 235 / 242 seems to be a fine vessel. Good luck.
Well I have 27 hrs on the boat now and I am really happywith it so far.I am courious to know what rpms other 242 owners are running at.I seem to like to run around 46 to 48 hundred rpms ,I feel the boat would be perfect with a 300 on the back.I took it out in some 6+ footer the other day and was really impressed.Now I am learning the electronics, I got the 7" nav net system with 4 kw dome.and transom mount transducer.I will post some pics soon.
Which motor do you have, which size prop, and what's your WOT rpm?
On my 235, I have the F225. It came with a 15.25" x 19" prop, but it was too much for my boat. I switched to a Yam SWS 15.25" x 17", and overall performance improved. Less pitch put my WOT rpm's right at the top of the suggested range, which is preferable in my opinion.
I have had my 242 for about 6 months now, and have enjoyed every minute while onboard. Check out my pics in the photo section. If you have any questions about installing anything, just ask. I have explored most of the inside of the boat for running wires, finding power, etc...
I will take a notepad out with me the next time that I go out and I will record some performance numbers and post them. It should be easy since I have the Yamaha fuel mgmt gauge to help me out. I have the 225 Yamaha 4 stroke bolted to the transom and I am very happy with it.
i have the y-225 four stroke prop is 15.25 x17" it will turn 6 grand trimed out.top speed on gps shows 44 mph with a full tank and two adults ,which I am happy with the performance but I know running at 46 to 48 is not the most economical rpm to run,and the digital fuel gauge is a little tricky it seems to stay full for a long time then its at 1/2 tank before you know it.ABoater I would like to see what kind of #,s you come up with on the fuel economy.I Would like to get the fuel mgmt gauge ,as I plan on going a long ways offshore once i get the electronics figured out.Thanks for the info guys.
Not sure if you've checked out the Yamaha performance bulletin, but your performance closely matches it. At 5000 rpm, it indicates slightly over 3 mpg. Until you get the fuel management gauge, you could assume that you'll get a minimum of 2 mpg or more, and use your gps to measure your distance. Not sure if the 242 tank is the same as the 235 (145 gallons), but if so, your range should easily be over 300 miles. Here's the link to the bulletin (you'll need Adobe to access it):
I saw one for the first time at the Newport Boat show this past weekend. This particular one was loaded including a beautiful hardtop. The price was $69,500.00 including a tandem trailer, I'm sure that was negotiable to some degree.....Beautiful boat, the wife loved it. But at that price it's not in the cards....

I paid 61 for mine with a 225 four stroke and aluminum trailer with 4 wheel disc brakes and powder coated hard top the only option mine did not have was out riggers and i believe anchor windlass was an option.
Just read an article in Trailer Boats on the 242 with the 300 HPDI. I think it said 75k. Topped out at 53. Forget cruise and prop. Worth a read if anyone else is interested in this setup.
Scouts are certainly getting expensive these days. The Newport show also had a beautiful 235, rigged with the 225hp Yamaha priced at 61k. I did get to meet and talk to Nate Scout's Factory Rep, he seemed like a great guy and we had a good talk, he gave me a few ideas and suggestions.....

Last summer I was told an "equipped" model could be had for around 70k. I personally thought the boat to be a bit on the light side, but nice nonetheless. However, that much for essentially a 22-23 footer is crazy.
