Default warning gauges

The warning gauges on my 1995 merc 225 efi's don't work. The beeper does work for the port engine, but doesn't on the stbd engine. How do I fix the broken beeper and warning lights?

You fix the symptoms by finding out what the problem is. Get a Mercury service manual and follow the trouble shooting tips in there, or take the motor to a dealer. There are many things that can cause the warning system to not work or to work when there is really no problem.

Bill Frist can not diagnose medical problems over the airwaves and I doubt there are any among us that can solve your problem via the internet.

4 lamp analog? O.K.

The gauge has a purple hot wire (+) going to the key. Check that first. 4 more colored wires go into a harness to the engine. Those are the ground (-) for the bulbs that go into the ECU box. One for each lamp.
The beeper also has a purple hot wire going to the key and tan/blue wire that is the ground (-) from the ECU box to sound the alarm. Look for wires cut or unplugged. Also check on the engine.

On the engine, if the key is on and any of those colored wires is grounded (jumper wire) the bulb will light up. This does no test the beeper. The beeper test is the jumper wire connected to the terminal where all the tan/blue's from the head temp sensor and such connect together.

Corrosion on the bulb terminials is a common problem.
Hope this this helps.

timebandit, I have a 98 200 EFI. When upgrading the oil injection bushing (plastic) with the metal one, mercury techs told me it's necessary to remove the pre-start audible alarm test function, ever hear of that?

don't mean to hijack but may concern thread starters situation too.

I remember the bushing. And I remember the geometry problem with the linkage and to disregard marks and move it 3 turns. I do not remember disconnecting any alarms. I will look further into it. I don't see how you would remove the key on self test.
