Not sure if being rich is a blessing or a curse.

How the hell do you even get one of them out of the slips? You'd have to move a dozen boats.

Very carefully!

A lot of these large sportfish and yacht owners are up to their eyeballs in debt, leveraging every penny they can out of their businesses (hurting their employees in the process) just to have these to show off. I used to run boats for several, and there never seemed to be much happiness in the lives of the owners. Very often, more money - more problems. Many of them barely leave the dock because they almost can't afford to.

I'll take my paid off 25' CC all day long. It's loaded with all the tackle and electronics I could ever need on a boat for fishing any species throughout Florida and the Bahamas. That and the love of my family makes me a rich man!

In the world of megayachts, $15-20 million is not a lot of money. I seem to remember that Larry Ellison's "smaller'" 240 ft boat Katana, which was originally called Eco and built by the late Mexican tycoon who owned the Sporting News among other thing, came out of the Blohm and Voss yard with a price tag close to $100 million and that was close to 20 years ago, IIRC. I would hate to know what Octopus and boats of that size cost today.

How come there are so many boats like that if only the top 1 % can afford them? Must be a bigger group than I thought. Nice though!

The top 1% of the US is over 3,000,000 people...top 1% of the world is about 68,000,000. Thats a lot of people.

I fly jets for some of these folks....yes to and from their yachts at times.

They do summer in the Med and winter in South FL or the Islands. Crews are in the 20-40 person range and operating budgets are usually about 10% the cost of the boat (per year!)

No - its nowhere near 1%...closer to .000001% and NO - they aren't in debt like a dentist with a Sportfisherman. These are 40-100Mil+ boats and Yes these people do enjoy theese boats and yes they are happy.

Dont kid yourselves - people who say "money does not buy happiness" - are usually not rich.

Why would anyone pay $15mil for a boat! You cant watch tv and fish, all you can do is drive around and get drunk in those boats. I can get drunk in a Yellowfin just as easy and have a lot more fun doing it. If it was me and my $15mil, I would buy a different 36 Yellowfin for everyday of the month. I have no use for one of those wastes of fiberglass.
