You could have saved alot of money and only bought a one way ticket. The taxpayers just picked up the tab to send you home. Alot of the evacuated people are complaining that it took the US government too long to get these people home, even though the state department warned people not to go. No all of us are paying for there total disregard for the warnings

Most of the civilians are required to sign promissory notes in order to be transported, so they did not get a free pass. The transportation was to Cypress for the most part, and it is up to the individual to make arrangements from that point.
I wonder how many of the "promissory notes" will be paid after it is said and done, though......

No Payments Required of American Citizens Departing Lebanon
In this extraordinary case, Secretary Rice has directed the State Department to waive the requirement for American citizens departing Lebanon to reimburse the United States Government for their travel costs. We want to do everything we can to facilitate the departure of American citizens from Lebanon. Today’s step removes one potential worry for our citizens at this difficult time.

This is not a good time to have a handfull of hostages in the hands of poor misunderstood followers of Muhammad. They may be trying to prevent such a thing from occurring. One less potential headache if things escalate in the area, is worth alot of tax dollars. The hostage boondoggle in Iran speaks volumes about the effect and cost of such a thing.
Vacationing in a country thats friendly to terrorist and their buddies, is the height of stupidity in light of the "we love the US" attitude that seems so prevalent in that neighborhood. Sometimes the "we're Americans come get us right now" attitude is just a bit ignorant.
Some of the people leaving town, have duel citizenship in Lebanon. I think they should have to pay their way, simply because of their inability to make a choice.
