Rob,
Sorry it’s taken a few days to get back to you, I was on vacation and a bit swamped since I returned on Tuesday. To address your life raft question, I am going to assume the you are not a commercial fishing company and that you have or will have a good 406 Mhz EPIRB. There are several ways to look at this as far as what liferaft to use and I hope I don’t confuse you but here it is.
One raft that I think is the raft that I would most strongly recommend for this application is the Switlik MD2 Life Raft. If you are mounting this in a canister this is the best choice for a really nice looking canister and cradle set up and a very high quality manufactured liferaft, we have found that in the canisters mounted on deck that the Switlik life rafts stay very dry and generally are less expensive to service over the life of the raft. Annual service is recommended by Switlik however most owners do not service every year. This is one raft that I feel this is OK to extend to every two or three years for service. You will still find your servicing costs are lower on a Switlik than most others. See the attached quote for pricing.
Another raft that is very economical is the Plastimo Offshore Plus liferaft, the best choice for a lower priced liferaft. Quality is good I don’t like the container as much for this one it’s a little thin and can crack easier. Also the cradle set up is not as high quality as Switlik. This has a manufacturere recommended three year service interval.
Another choice is the Crewsaver USCG Approved SOLAS Life Raft. This comes complete with a nice deck cradle set-up including a hydro release and an extended equipment pack. This would be my second choice.
Please feel free to ask any questions call me or email me. I'd be happy to email a quote on any of these. Thanks.
Best regards,
Jim
