My 2006c gave up the ghosts about 6 mos after I added radar. My antenna for the gps is mounted flush on the hardtop and Garmin says the radar fried it. I am going to put it on a 4 ft extension so it will be 3 foot above the radar, they claim this will work. I have a Furuno 1623 which is only 2 kw but I guess it is enough to smoke the antenna. I thought I would pass this on.

My new Garmin 2006C antenna is mounted about a foot below my 2kw radar. The installation instructions show this as OK although no dimensions are given. Is this more clearance than you had? Should I be concerned? Thanks.

My radome was mounted flat to the ttop and the antennae as well, The antennae was about 30 inches away so I do not know if you will have problems or not down the road. I just bought a ratchet mount and a 4 foot extension to raise the antenna about the radome yet still be able to lower it to trailer it. Right now to the top of my radome is 12ft6in which is about as high as I want going down the hiway.

either above or below the dome, but not on the same plane - this works fine this way:

so you're saying antenna gave up the ghost, not the unit?

According to Garmin the antenna is the brain on 2006,2010 units and yes the head unit was good to go but the antenna was fried.
