Last weeked my tach was reading about 6k when it shoud have been in the less than 2k range. This problem had popped up last summer a few times but there is no performance issues with the motor while running, just an innnacurate reading. Tried to use search function for this and came up blank, but I do remember that there was a common cause for this bug if I remember correctly. Any experiences out there????
Thanks- Lilroo in SoCal

Normally from moisture in the gauge--sometimes all it takes is condensation

same problem. I thought it was cavitation at first, but then just went by sound/feel and never let tach go over 5500. Always seems to correct itself after about 20minutes. Condensation might be the answer...

Newb here on THT! I sea trialed the rig I am currently trying to close on and the stbrd tach was acting the exact way LilrooLN described shortly after we fired up the twin Opti's. The owner of the boat said it was just a little sticky and will correct itself after a few minutes. I figured this was minor as while running the boat the motors sounded very close to being synchronized, even though the tach would periodically jump up 600-1000 rpm's. The tach did settle down for the most part but did jump around a little for the remainder of the sea trial. I am also looking for others who have experienced this and any comments/solutions would be greatly appreciated!
