I have a 2001 Yam carb 150 horse with yam gagues. At extended periods of time trolling at 400-500 RPM's temp light will start blinking. No audible alarm. I can take out of gear and rev up to 1200 rpms for 30 seconds and light will go out. Have to repeat this about every hour. 40 Hours on new water pump and impeller. Never lights up except at dead slow. What do you think? 200 hours total on motor.

What is the specified RPM for your motor at idle? 400 - 500 RPM seems low to me.

Your idle rpms should be 700 rpms.
