Took this picture this morning after spending the night on the boat, the wife is still sleeping in the cuddy with the ac on full blast. I wish the picture came out better, the tide was coming in and the water was as clear as a swimming pool on the sand bar.

Looks nice. Do you have a gen hidden on there somewhere? Never seen a 302 w/a gen.

I have a Honda EU2000 on the engine bracket. It works great there, being that it is outside the hull and all the way in the back and we sleep all the way up front you can't hear it at all, these gens are very quiet anyway. I have also built a cowling for the gen to prevent it from getting wet, it secures to the transom and holds the gen in place so I can run the boat with the gen in place.

Thanks, I am not done yet, I still need to bevel the edges and fill the screw holes with 5200.

Now that's what I call cool!

Would love to see some more pics/ specs of this install - looking like factory. I have been thinking about installing an A/C unit on my 33 Hydrasport cuddy. I am sure I am not the only forum member to think about this given the current heat. Been looking at the Honda/Yamaha (so let the bashing begin) super quiet hand held models.

As for the A/C Unit, I have been looking at the Mermaid Marine Air

$$$ but super small if space is a premum as it is on mine!

Andrew

Now that is a slick setup... Do you think there will be any condensation and corrosion problems over time, moreso than normal?

The gen comes off very easy, I put it there only in calm conditions. The AC unit I used is a 5000 btu window unit from Home Depot $75.00 that I converted to a water cooled unit by removing the air cooled condenser and fan and welded in a cooper nickel water cooled condenser. The ac works awsome, being that I have only a cuddy it gets very cold very fast.
Total invested was $1150.00, $1000 for the gen, $75.00 for the AC and $75.00 for the coil. If something breaks on the AC 75 bucks and an hour fixes it. The picture you are looking at was shot from all the way in the front of the cabin looking back. It protrudes only 4" in to the cabin, the rest is under the floor of the cockpit which works out well because it lets the condensation drip right in to the bilge.

"So you rewired it" :)

Great idea, love the simplicity of your A/C modification perfect for "Down Island", not to mention cost factor. Where did you source the cooper nickel water cooled condenser in South Florida? Is this something that you can find at an HVAC Store? Or did you perform a transplant from a suitable marine unit that had signed its "organ donor ticket" at say Sailorman?

Hats off to you - great idea, nice craftsmanship, Brilliant!

A friend of mine works for Florida Heat Pump which is an AC manufacturing plant in Fl Lauderdale. He was able to get me the coil, but I see no reason you can't steal one from a broke down marine unit. I think you can even buy it from Florida Heat Pump, I think they sell to the public. You will need someone who knows how to work on AC units and has the tools and supplies like refrigerant sinse you will need to cut the lines on the condenser and weld in the coil. Keep in mind that when you make this modification to that brand new $75 ac unit it may void the warranty. Thanks for the compliments.

The only thing bad about that is that I didn't think of it. That is really cool. Not that I'm made of money, but rolling the dice on a the warranty of a $75 A/C doesn't seem like much of an issue. Nice Work!

I know, the warranty comment was a joke. I am sure they would laugh at me if I brought it back to Home Depot the way it is now.
