Stupid question so here goes: Have a 23' Allmand Hard Top and double axle trailer bought for 2 grand last year. Got all the "bugs" worked out except one. Came with a Danforth and 4 feet of of lead chain followled by100 feet of 5/8 rope. problem is thered/green light/anchor mount doesnt (seem) to support the anchor correctly. What is the correct way to mount/tie down the anchor while under way? I have installed the hardware to put the excess rope and chain in a small locker below.

Anchor mount/light in triangular shaped with a pair of hollow (looks like handlebars) with a slot in between them( I know that doesnt help much )

While your description is less than clear, what I suspect you are describing as the "pair of hollow with a slot in between them" is a place for the anchor to hang. Generally, the area below the slot accesses the small locker below that you mention. You put the line in the small locker, lead the chain (hopefully galvanized steel not lead  ) up through the slot, attach it to the hole in the end of the shank (the long steel piece with a hole at the end of it) then put the end with the chain on it back down to the slot and then the flukes (the flat parts) should follow. The long rod between the flukes should go into the hollows so that the anchor hangs by the long rod with the chain and rope down in the little locker.

If I have misconstrued what you said, please disregard this post.

I hope this helps!

Hey that does make more sense! Boy I looked like a monkey trying to f%$ a goat before. Now the next followup question: Do I hang the anchor off the rails or should it lay flat on the deck and if so is there a pad or a way to tie down the anchor so it doesnt bounce around.

By the way thanks Ted!

Welcome aboard.* This may be helpful.* This is a typical bow anchor set-up.* You'll note there is a safety rope to tie off anchor; till it is ready to use.

What Mumbler said, but don't forget to take a piece of stainless steel wire and twist it through and around that galvanized shackle eyebolt so it doesn't accidentally unscrew and you lose your anchor.

And, 100' of anchor rode is only good for 15' of rough water. Depending on where you boat, you should definitely consider more. And, 5/8" is great line but it takes up a lot of space and is somewhat overkill for a 23' boat. You can get by just fine with 3'8", which is what Fortress Anchors recommends. 3/8"http://www.fortressanchors.com/fortress_anchor_guide.html

What greyg8r said, but you don't have enough chain. You can go to 1/4in chain, but you need 15ft of it.

JMO. You need more chain. General rule of thumb is however long boat is for chain length. So on your boat it should be about 25 ft of chain. And you need around 150 ft(or more) of anchor rode 3/8 or 1/2 inch. Good Luck. Norbu.

We usually figure the chain length of half the boat length. 25ft of chain with an anchor hanging on it, is going to be a motha to pick up.
