Trying to help my father get his boat up and running. What do you recommend for a 18' center console for electronics. His current system broke and was really a pain in the ass to use and I'd like to talk him into something different. Looking for a GPS/Sonar package. What do you recommend that is easy to used and cost effective. It will be use for inshore fishing mostly. Thanks

Have your dad look into the already mentioned Garmin 541S and even better the Garmin 740s.
Garmin has some refurbished units being sent out right now so they should be plenty of bargins availbe.

Also...the Sitex EC-7 is a real value for the $....right at $675.
This is a very good unit...even has radar capability.
