Finally got a chance to post some pics from our overnight out of Destin last Sunday/Monday. We caught 4 nice yellowfin over 60#, blackfin, mahi, one wahoo and my son caught a really nice sailfish. Most of what we caught was livebaiting. Caught one blackfin on an anteater jig and caught the sail and wahoo on artificials. No sword bites overnight, but we did catch a couple of sharks. Weather was perfect.

If you don't mind me asking how far out were the yellowfin? I'm headed down next weekend and I've never caught one before. Thanks

We caught these at the spur right at daylight. Didn't have any luck trolling, so we switched to live baiting and jigging.

We trolled a good bit on Sunday, with no luck. Got into several schools of blackfin, but couldn't get them to bite. They were all in the 10-20# range. My son finally got one to hit on a vertical jig, with the largest part of the school down 80 feet or so. The mahi we caught all came on hardtails, thrown out behind the boat on 60# flourocarbon and 7/0 circle hooks. Overnight, while swordfishing, we kept a live bait out and caught two more blackfin. At daylight Monday, there were blackfin and yellowfin fairly well scattered. One blackfin hit a tuna popper and one yellowfin hit a live bait. The schools of yellowfin only surfaced a few times, mostly holding 150-200 feet down. We tried vertical jigs, with no luck. Finally got the idea to send a live bait down on a standard grouper rig, and that did the trick. Caught 3 more yellowfin and left with fish biting and full boxes. We trolled back toward Destin and caught the sailfish and a wahoo on artificials. Missed a small white marlin, too.
The boat is a friend's 26' Glacier Bay, powered with 150 ETECs. It's more comfortable overnight than my center console.
