Hi, i have a 1999 Merc 125 two stroke. A few weeks ago, the motor tilted up all by itself. When i pushed the binnacle trim switch down (while it was tilting up), it stopped (didn't go down). Today, I messed with it. Disconnected binnacle trim switch, still went up randomly on its own. Seems the switch on the motor works, at least it seems to. When it was trimming up by itself, i tapped the 'up' relay and it stopped, then started agin in 2 seconds or so. Mor tappin, more stopping. Messed with the wiring harness and miracusally, it seemd to perform properly. Flopped the boat in the water and went for a cruse. 1 hour in, the motor trims up all by itself. guess I didn't fix it!

So, sounds like the relay is bad? Only concern I have with this diagnosis is that when it is 'auto' tilting up, and i push the down trim switch, it just stops, doesn't go down. So, is it a relay or a short somewhere in the wiring?

OK then. Looks like i'll replace the relays and see if it fixes the issue.
