So I have been fishing in Narragansett Bay for over 30 years now. I have never caught one of these. First thought was that it was a redfish or a reddrum (a small one), but I don't see the spot on the tail for a redfish and reddrum seems more like something that could be in the bay, even though I have never heard of them being caught. Any ideas?

Goes by a lot of different names but that is a Northern Kingfish
There are different kinds of kingfish and the further south you go they stop being called kingfish and start being called Virginia Mullet or Sea Mullet and even Whiting

In the gulf they have little "feelers" around the mouth. Good eats.
