I love spot! They are great bait we use them all the time in montauk. Iam not sure in chessapeake but in MTK i use spot or croakers, and were iam in jones inlet live bunker. Maybe try eels.

What part of the Chesapeake? The cbbt has plenty of striped bass now, and a live spot or menhaden will get them in the boat.

Yes, what part of the bay?

Spot are usually a very good Striper bait.

I used to fish commercially hook and line on the cbbt. I have hook and lined over 1500lbs a day with one other person. I used live Croaker with a spinning rod. Spot is a good bait but Croaker is better. Spot likes to hole up where Croaker does not. I would use large hook through the mouth of croaker and toss it over the Tubes of bridge. NE winds make Striper gather together in schools. Try and catch Croaker or Spot in shallowest water possible. They are much more lively this way.

In Maryland croaker need to be 9". Therefore not used for live bait. If you arent getting them on spot, they arent there.. Spot are the top bait. Eels can be effective but mostly in fall when they are migrating out of the bay.

Maryland portion of the bay has been tough this summer. Last trip, I ended up having to run and run looking for pods of fish to drop live spot on in order to catch a limit. It think many of the fish have headed up in the rivers.

When the fish are there, it wont matter what you throw at them. I have caught them with seabass, porgy, perch, kingfish, and trout. I have even caught a striper on regurgitated fish.

9" is perfect size

I've used porgies almost twice that :D

Picked up a 33# last night and dropped two more close to it
