If you are using Outlook 2010: when you try to drag a message from the inbox to a created sub-folder (on the left) does it take you 3 or 4 drags before it moves? I had to upgrade to 2010 last month with a new PC and so far this is the only PITA, but it is a BIG one.

It moves them but it takes 3 or 4 tries. Really annoying...I thought maybe it's a wrong setting or something.

This doesnt happen to me with Outlook2010, and I use multiple mailboxes both locally and on network drives.

Is this under Windows XP, or under Windows 7? I find that Office 2007 and 2010 act somewhat flakey when installed on XP.

Play wound with the mouse sensitivity settings and see if it fixes it. If it's too sensitive, the mouse pointer will fly all over the place and you may be missing the target folder. If it's not sensitive enough, the message you are dragging can lag and "fall off" the mouse pointer so to speak.

It's on a new Windows7 computer. I'll check the mouse sensitivity. Thanks

Are your subfolders on a separate network location? Maybe a delay from network or perhaps yoru local security settings are scanning message prior to the move? I have archives on the left under my inbox but none are stored on my local PST....all go to a network folder where my archive PST is located.
