Hey Everyone,
I am pleased to Announce that on Saturday , August 25th.2012, The long Island NY chapter of the MS Society will be holding its first annual Fishing for A Cure Fluke Tournament! I approached the charity with this idea a year and a half ago, and its finally coming to fruition. This is my way of trying to help those inflicted with the illness. I have a wife who suffers from it and an Uncle who had the illness for forty years and was bad 'til his death... I want this event to become a staple on Long Island for years to come. I can tell that this site has many sharpies and I am hopeful that at least some of you might be interested in participating for a great cause. Please check out our events web page with rules, and online registration available , as well as a list of sponsors. We have a nice after tournament evening planned at McFaddens of Rockville Center beginning at 5pm, complete with give aways, raffles, silent auctions for trips and of course the prizes will be awarded.
Thank you for taking a few moments of your day to check it out.

This first year event raised more than $4,000 to support local programs and services as well as support critical research to find the cause, improve therapies and ultimately find a cure for MS. This years fishing for a cure fluke event, incorporating calcutta divisions for largest sea bass and largest sea robin, (optional) will take place on Sat July 27th.
Taking an impromptu poll about awards festivities
the question is , which is more convenient ,
A Having awards cermony the day of the event at like 5 pm
B. Having the awards the day after the event in early afternoon?
I would be very interested to get a general opinion from folks on this site as I have yet to finalize the ceremony
Thanks for taking a few minutes to read this. :)

The awards ceremony/banquet should always be held the day of the tournament, while everyone is in attendance, and in the spirit.

I think ultimately ur right about this. I have an issue only because of the large area the event covers . I have people fishing from great south bay to the rockaways. It's a little different from a one location event. Last year we held it at McFaddens the day of the event. Would like to make it easier for people to go we had 25 percent of the entrants at the awards party . That was when we had it run only from jones inlet to brooklyn. Thanks so much for the advise. That's the point of posting this, I want to make this the best event I can.

I would love to be able to offer this event on the north shore. I made some advances in doing so. This year it may not happen due to staffing and logistical problems. I actually have two weigh stations available to me on the north shore. If I could get a few volunteers to form a north shore committee I could probably pull off 2 divisions and find a centrally located place to have awards. I've asked the charity to give me another event and form a series of tournaments. They can't give me another tourney this year, unfortunately. Thank you for the interest , maybe something will change on this we'll have to see. ;?
