Trying to figure out the best place to mount my ACR Globalfix epirb Cat II in my 36' CC. I have a very basic boat with nothing on the gunnels so I'm thinking about placing it inside the console (no head-just storage for me) where it would be kept out of the elements. This would also keep the deck pretty open when folks are running lines back and forth. The only issue I see putting it in the console is that it will take an extra 3-5 seconds getting to it as opposed to mounted outside. Maybe I'm just over thinking this but it is my-last-resort-to-be-saved option so wanted to hear some opinions...

I was pondering the same thing last weekend. I think I will just keep it with my ditch bag. The guy next to me at the marina last weekend has his mounted inside his cc door with Velcro.

I have been considering the same thing. I think I am going to mount mine just inside the console door so it is readily available but out of the elements. I may make a place for it at the helm to keep it right at hand while I am out fishing.

Bad situations happen fast. Would you be able to get it if a rouge wave swamped you? I doubt you would be able to get the epirb and raft out of the console.
In my instance, I hope I never need it. But I have a 6 man Solas a raft with hydro release and epirb mounted on the outside of the console. That way I know where it is and don't have to worry about opening a door. The boat has basic floatation, but just in case if it does sink, the hydro release will give me one last opportunity. Most guys I know have the ditch bag in console and it may be too late.
Just my opinion.

I'm mounting mine next to the console door, about a foot off the deck. If i'm concerned about the elements, I'll have a canvas cover made for it. Out of the way, and easily accessible.

That reminds me to send in for my free ditch bag from acr-thanks.
I was thinking the ditch bag option too. It can be stored easily on deck and easily moved around if needed but was just trying to avoid more crap on deck (bean bags, food coolers, tackle, etc.). Don't have a raft, yet, but should get one. Doesn't make sense to spend money on only 2-3 trips worth of gas yet not have a basic raft onboard. It might be the crowd I've only known, but I don't know many folks here in Texas who carry a raft on an outboard vessel. Seen them plenty on the Hatts, Berts, etc. but not on the go-fast crowd. Wonder why? Space issues or cultural thing?

btw- i agree with go fish. when bad things happen, they happen fast. always gotta be on the look out and have an alternate plan in place.

I mount mine inside the CC console-- out of elements, hidden from thieves. I believe you can access it fast. Secondly if you enter bad conditions you can easily access it in advance and have it next to you. Lastly, even though my life raft and EPIRB both have hydrostatic releases, I don't put much faith in them. If conditions are so rough that you do not have time to get your life raft or epirb, what makes you think you will get to them when the boat is sunk, and they are drifting/floating free? Most bad storms mean wind, which means they will be blown way. You better have them in hand before your boat goes down. In which case, have them stored away in an easily accessible place.
Works for me and I am very happy with my life raft on my CC top, epirb mounted inside my head.

I mounted mine with two V-Lock mounts. One in the console and one out.
When we run offshore it is outside where everyone can get at it. When at the dock it is back in the console for safe keeping.
All the best,

Mine is mounted outside my electronics box, under my T-Top, where I can reach and relese it without leaving the helm. Mounting it high keeps the elements off of it as much as possible,
I mounted the bracket on an 45 deg angle so my CAT II EPIRB will come out of it's bracket easily without having to "lifting" it up. I can do this with just one hand. I found this is best for me.
