Scratch that, I want a new AR.

I have a guy willing to give me what I paid for my current AR, which is an RRA mil spec 5.56. It's a great firearm, and I've put probably 2500 rounds through it. Contemplating which AR to get next, Noveske, Daniels Defense, LMT, ??? What are you guys running? Definitely want 5.56, no AR 10 for me. Looking for higher end, gonna drop a little change on this one!

Robinson Armament. The most versatile rifle around.

I have wanted one of H&K's MR556A1 models...I shoot the P30 in .40, and I am impressed with the gun. I am new to the world of AR rifles...

I have a P30 as well in 9mm. The HK AR is a bit too pricy for a knock around gun in my opinion. Average price tag is above 3k

If you want to drop some coin. Go with a Les Baer custom.

First of all BUY "off the shelf" if you are ever going to resale it. Trying to get your money back on a franken gun, no matter the components, isn't going to happen.

I just picked a Larue PredatAR over the Noveski and DD. I would have bought the HK MR556 if it came with the same adjustable gas block as the HK416, but it doesn't. I liked the slim fore end and lack of picatinny rails on the LaRue. You can still add them to the fore end where needed though.

I also have the 300blk in a bolt gun and a AAC AR platform and would recommend sticking to the .223/5.56 unless you have a need for it i.e. hunting or running suppressed. The 300blk is more of a specialty round and not nearly as impressive for plinking as the .223rem.

Bottom line is go find a dealer that has a bunch to chose from and handle them all. There isn't one right AR15 for everyone.

My RRA was pieced together for cheaper than an off the shelf. My next one will be off the shelf. I want 5.56, 16" chrome lined barrel, gas operated. LMT is 20 weeks out as is Noveske. DD says call for info. I may try to locate one on gunbroker or bud's. Buddy of mine has a LaRue and it's nice, but not exactly what I want. The search continues!

Skip the AR this time and get a tricked out Mini 14. They have a stock kit that makes it a very useful rifle with scout mounted scope, really neat. I want to say it's a Robar custom.

I have a Mini 14 and an AR 15..... The Ar 15 wins hands down in reliability (mini is touchy about mags), much more accurate, easier to get parts (upgrade), Mags are much cheaper etc.

The only downside an AR 15 is a little more expensive...

Have you looked around at different gun shops? There are several around that carry all the higher end Ar's in stock so there is no wait. I would assume you could find the same quality of shops anywhere.

Build your own. I've built 3 over the last few years, this way the gun is set up how you want it not how a manufacture thinks it should be. Last one I did was all top shelf parts. White oak armement has some of the best barrels in the business and they also produce some very nice competition guns. Here's my long range gun

Have owned a bunch of AR's over the years. Pretty hard to get a bad one from the upper tier companies. Ended up with a couple of LWRC's and am pretty sure they will be my last. Excellent quality and accuracy but they are kind of $$$.

but since he already has an AR, that Mini in a custom stock has that real "rifle" feel to it and is tons of fun.

I think he is looking for a high end AR...Mini's are fun but not a very serious rifle as far as many AR owners are concerned... I do like mine and love the gerand type action, that is why I still have one but the AR is much more of apurpose built rifle in my Opinion...

First decide on how you plan to use it - HD, range use, hunting, etc

That will yield info on barrel length, gas system & other features

If it's going to be your only AR (very difficult) a 16" carbine with mid-length gas system would be a great place to start. I would look at Noveske - they have several options in barrels (CHF or SS) and choices of rails

From there you can decide if you want a longer barrel for more precison work or a SBR

looked at Noveske hard so far. Looked at a 16" CHF barrel, mid length gas carbine. I think they call it the "Light Recce". Gonna see if I can put hands on one locally before ordering direct from Noveske. My FFL will transfer my stuff for 10 bucks. Daniels Defense and LMT are on the short list as well. The thing with LMT is the 20 week wait. I think I may call them to see if that's an accurate timeline;?
