There was a large school of these at Big 10 all morning. They were either short striking our dolphin lures or hitting the line as we were trolling. This one we actually foul-hooked.

The rest of the story today... It was slow at Northwest Places and the Big 10 area. We ended up with a false albacore, and a few short strikes on our ballyhoo. Finally bottom fishing, we ended up with one keeper sea-bass. At least the weather was nice.

Needlefish aka houndfish. Extremely acrobatic, and can be damn dangerous...I have read accounts of people getting speared by them.

I see those all the time while floundering in the sound, although not usually that damn big.

All post correct for names, Add a string of 4X treble hooks with a skirt up front and wait for a smoker king, Big bait, Big King. Seen it done before.

Looks like a big gar. Vettnman, those are most likely longnose gar you see. I see them a lot rolling along the banks or cruising the surface while throwing a castnet.

You're damn right. I caught one yesterday and had a huge one hooked when he cut the line. Caught the first on on a diamond jig, the second bit the diamond jig, then decided to wrap it around a planer line, a squid chain and then cut two of the lines....:banghead:

Pretty weird things. They fight pretty good, but it would take 30 or 40 to make a snack.
