What do you build with it? You really can't look at it that way unless one is making repetitive small projects that perfectly fit the bill of a bandsaw. A hammer is a tool that is used in making a house, but a hammer does not make a house....do you get what I mean?

Smaller bandsaws such as yours are really no good in cutting straight lines or re-sawing because the size of the blade is so narrow - 1/8", 1/4", 3/8" or possibly 1/2" up to 1". The bandsaw is ideally suited for cutting long sweeping radiuses or rabbits and dados.

The bandsaw stands along much of the time but when you need it, it is just the ticket and a pleasure to have and use. Build a stand for it and put rollers on the bottom of the stand so you can roll the bandsaw in and out of the corner when needed.

If the saw is in perfect running order you got one hell of a deal.

Mine has 24" resaw capability......not that I've ever used anything close to that :)

That is one of those things that is that is only taking up space UNTIL you need it, then it is worth its weight in gold. If you do any kind of fabrication or projects you will find that you just can't live without it. 3 minutes on the band saw is so much better than half an hour with the hacksaw and file to fix the damn dlightly crooked edge that will drive you nuts.

Wow, 24" re-saw capabilities....man one would want to use a 3" wide blade with a tooth every 2 - 3".

With the one I looked at yesterday afternoon, you know what, I did not make a mental note on what the saw could re-cut. Based on the picture I stumbled across (below - that is almost exact) I would say close to 24" as well....as you say more than we'll need. The saw I looked at today had several 1”, 2” & 3” blades to go with it. I know the wheels were 3” wide.

The throat is the distance between the saw blade that cuts the wood and the saw blade going up the back side of the saw....somewhat the size of the wheels. In other words a saw with a 36" throat could cut a perfect 6' wide circle. This particular saw has two work surface tables as you can see in the pic; the larger of the two tables is 42" x 42".....wow big!

Everything is good, but one problem. The saw is knocked down into a few basic parts for ease of moving it around and somehow in that process the guy has lost one of the table's trunnions......he knows the significance of that trunnion.

The elderly fellow knows the saw is useless without the trunnion and therefore he is talking about scrap cast value for the saw, but on the other hand he says he just wants it out of the shop. I've got to take another look at the one trunnion that is there and see if I can fabricate another one. If I think I can I'll probably start my opening bid at $75 and maybe move to a $100 on the top side. ...we'll see what happens.
