Tough crowd alright.I can't see how they are right into themselves.All of these ceremonies promote the country they're held in.How would the yanks do it?

America with 313 million people won 104 medals, Russia with 130 million won 82 medals,
the European union took more medals than USA, England with less than 100 million people took almost 70 medals, Running, once the games winner from team USA, is gone...

If Japan and other countrys would not had given team games to America, the USA would be surpassed
even more.

Too bad they made the opening and closing ceremonies all about them (and politicizing the opening ceremonies with their healthcare crap). Remember, it is a universal event.

Another poster asked how we would have made the closing ceremony differently (not making it all about the US). To that poster I say look at how we did it the last time we hosted the summer Olympics.

But if we held the 2012 Summer Olympics:

Perhaps we would have boasted about the industrial revolution as WE made it happen..........but I doubt we would have.

Perhaps we would have boasted about how we made a major sacrifice in saving Europe from being taken over by Hitler............but I doubt we would have.

Perhaps we would have boasted about how we invented Rock and Roll and how the Brit bands spun off that origin.......but I doubt we would have.

Yes, the ceremonies are about the hosting Country, but I have never before seen such in your face stuff as I saw in both the opening and closing ceremonies.

I think the closing ceremonies should include a massive Dodgeball Tournament, any Olympic athlete who won a Gold Medal is eligible to participate. It goes on until we have one Ultimate Gold Medalist, the winner gets a whole gold bar!!! The entertainment value has to be light years ahead of whatever I just watched...

The USA did great in the events that required raw athletic ability (swimming, track and field, etc), and in games which are popular here in the US, basketball, volley ball, tennis, shooting, women’s soccer etc. A lot of American sports like baseball, are not in the Olympics, but sports which are popular in other countries are.

I really don't feel like any less of nation do to us not being very good at badminton, ping pong, or hand ball.

If fishing was a sport. you would be looking at a Athlete in the Internation scale...
