How the summer is moving so fast. It’s already the middle of August and the Striper fishing is still good. Unlike last year, the stripers have stayed around a lot longer. Last year we were making runs across the bay to Provincetown to find them in front of the bathhouse, this year we are doing well in the West…off of Sandy Neck.
I have been saying in my reports that the place to go is West…and I still will stay on that view. The only thing about going West is that you may have to work that area for a good amount of time, HOWEVER when you find them and you hit for them …they are big stripers. This past few weeks…we have put a nice 39 and 36 pounder in the box….and the 36 pounder won the Joe Cronin Fishing Tourney…not a bad showing out of 66 boats..(nice work RJ and Team Shannon Sea).
If you are going to get out, and you want a shot at a nice size trophy fish…go west. Run about a mile or two past the entrance can to Barnstable Harbor and work towards Sandwich. I would focus on 25-35 feet of water…bring the tubes and some sea worms…and run them 5-6 colors out. You can also jig, however check the jigs for sand dollars…they load up fast. I would go with a dark colored jigs as well.
The shoals have some small fish, umbrella rigs with silver spoons are working well. You can run some pink or orange hoochies or toss out the jigs if you wish, however I would start with the umbrella rigs. If you do find some big marks with your fish finder, change it up and toss the jigs out and rip them through those marks…you should be able to find some nice size keepers lying on the bottom….either way the rods should go off.
If you are looking to get our, please give us a call and we will make it happen. Follow us on Facebook as well as our web site for pixs. Stay safe and think screaming drags..
