This is the one I have and I love it! I only put the best in my ditch bag because when I'm in the water I don't have time for anything but perfection. I hope its the most money I've ever wasted.....along with my epirb and PBL.

I'm running the Standard Horizon HX370S. The unit is super rugged.
I was able to get it programed with local Fire (rec.only),DPW and a few other municipal channels aswell, so its also like a scanner if the power goes out. I
think it was $175 (some years ******

The HX370S is extremely versatile. I bought one less than a week ago for $129 (Defender) but then had to hunt down the programming software and cable.

I'm still compiling a frequency list...it can take an additional 40 channels outside of the marine band. I'll definitely put a dozen or so ham repeaters, tactical USCG (receive only) and a number of law enforcement channels, also receive only.

One negative: it does not float.

Might consider an alkaline battery pack for the radio in the ditch bag.

Another vote for the HX851, I keep it in my bag. Great radio!! Get WM to price match it, I bought mine on sale from The GPS Store at $199+ reasonable shipping.

ICOM M72 for ease of use and legendary quality is what I have in my bag. I turn it on at my house and continually pic up river traffic. Hopefully it was a complete waste of money ;)
