Codfisher

I am running a 3 day charter for a family from Illinois. They have never fished the Atlantic before but are quick learners, Cod and haddock are filling the coolers and today they wanted to fight sharks and ground fish as well. Landed 3 blue dogs 6' 8' and 10'. They did very well learning the pull squat reel routine.
One of the guys gets a good bite on a ground fish on which I thought was a big cod. I joked that if it was a halibut it would dive for the bottom when it saw the boat. 30' down I saw color and at 20' feet I saw he did indeed have a halibut. Shows you what I know!
Lipped gaffed the fish and brought aboard a 40 lb halibut 37" long (released to fight another day).. First halibut for the Lady Diane and a great day on the water with great folks.
Tomorrow they want to try for tuna and with their luck I will need to sharpen the dart tonight!
