Here in Virginia all it take is a spotter plane, two boats with a big net and a mother ship with a big mama jama vacuum.
I was out running the buoys on my jet ski looking for cobia (saw one dink) again tonight. There were big schools of menhaden busting the surface on the eastern shore side of the Chesapeake Bay, it is really cool thing to see and hear on calm summer evening.
I saw a spotter plane and a big commercial boat not far away so I went and took some pictures of it. Here they are;

Omega is a evil company! Sorry had to say it made the wife stop buying fish oil from them and after showing her some pics like this she was on board. Let's get our fish oil from stripers! See the spotter planes a lot here in NJ.

It's really sad that the state of VA still allows them to rape the natural resources this way. What a shame

Lol at the last picture. He's staring right at you. It's a sad sight to see when they are netting fish like that.

Are we not our worst enemy to let this happen ? Is there any wonder why fisheries are closed, and quotas are put in place ? Remember the days when you went fishing and caught A lot of fish ? Very sad to see this kind of harvesting.

It's political here in VA with OMEGA but the pressure is on. The damage they do is so obvious and on such a large scale.

We were at a beach vacation in Emerald Isle NC and a boat just like that saw me fishing from my kayak around a school of menhaden--hoping to hook a Spanish or blue or... as soon as i paddled from the area, the little net boats came in and netted all the menhaden. about an hour later, we had a big oil slick on the beach with some dead fish, mostly just scaly oil. The slick stayed there the rest of the week.

Florida thank god banned seine netting a while back. I gotta tell ya, it made a helluva difference around here when you want to fish off thye beach or even go out the pass for bait fish. We have a great bait fish population now. So now with the bait fish along the shoreline everything else comes around to feed off the bait fish. It`s a good thing. Sorry for the seine fishermen, but they are just killng the fishery.

God never intended for fish to be taken in that manner.

Apparently God is not the almighty that eveyone believes...seems to me that it's the VA legislature that's all powerful.

Hate seeing that! I agree fish were not meant to be caught that way! When they are gone a lot more species will disappear as well.

And the guys working those boats will be the first in line to blame recreational
fishing for destroying their livelyhood.

It's sad that the American public will not be motivated by the large scale overfishing of this "lowly" species. If there had been ONE dolphin or turtle or some other cute species in that net, you can bet that letters to politicians would be written, money would start flowing, the news media would pick it up, and there would be some sort of mobilization on this issue. Little does the American public know, the survival of this entire stock is much more important than any one individual dolphin or turtle. Sadly, it gets a fraction of the attention in our political dialogue. People who claim to be "friendly to the environment" have a warped sense of priorities when they ignore this sort of behavior in their own backyard but become enraged over a whale halfway around the globe. I'm not trying to dismiss the protection of marine mammals, but lets also protect our keystone species that make all marine life possible.
Thank you Jet Ski Brian for taking these pictures.
