Truck is on my short list. Priced out a '12 Tundra Limited Crew Max 5.7l 4x4 w/Platinum package, rear seat entertainment, moon roof, skid plate, TRD breaks, color matched bed cover for $40,995 which includes rebates/incentives. Is this a good deal? ;?
For those that have the Crew Max Tundra how do you find the interior space i.e. number of passengers that you can seat comfortably? We have 2 kids and one on the way and the wifey is says it's going to be to small - we currently own a Lexus GX470 w/3rd row (if you call it that). The Lexus is a great truck it's just getting up there in age and it's not exactly what I would consider "roomy."
The Sequoia woudl be great, but it does not have the towing capacity of the Tundra and to get it with the options we would like (Platinum) it would cost a hell of a lot more than the Tundra.
I really like the look of the Tundras, but it might be DOA unless I can convince her otherwise...

I figured it would fit 5, but she's concerned about if she has to lug some of my son's friends around. How practical is it to fit more than 5? I guess there are only seatbelts for 5 correct?
I read there is a little known front bench seat option, but finding info on it has been difficult.

I don't think you can get the bench up front in the platinum package or limited package. And yes only 3 belts in the back.

Solid, dependable truck....
We have three in our immediate family, and my nephew owns a Limited Crew Max with over 60k and it still rides tight and quiet.
The 5.7 has proved to be bulletproof.
That price seems damned good. It won't be long and the 2013's are out...so look for some good year end deals out there.....

That is a fair deal on that truck. I have same 2010 model 4x2 and payed very close to that without rear entertainment. The interior is excellent and has held up great with my two kids and golden retriever. You wont be disapointed.

Not sure what your asking, legally speaking 3 grown adults fit comfostably in the back with plenty of leg room and each equipped with a seatbelt. If your not speaking in regards to safety and the law I can tell you that 5 teenage boys fit in the back seat.....grin I have a 2010 Crew Max and it has tons of room in the back, I hauled 5 of us from Central Texas to Venice,LA for a Tuna trip and all the guys that rode in the back seat remarked about how much room there was.

Hey I should have mentioned, my wife will be driving it a lot of the time. Seems woman friendly no? Shit if you blind folded someone and put them in the cab they would think they were in a Sequoia.

The crew max has a huge amount of space in the rear, but as mentioned you're limited to 3 seat belts. I went with the double cab because I needed the bed space and hardly ever have anyone in the back seat. I would say the truck is user friendly, doesn't take long to figure out where everything is and all are easy to get to while driving without taking your eyes of the road. If your wife is familiar with driving big vehicles then she would be find. My wife has an 07 Highlander, so she always struggled driving me truck and that was before I put the 9" lift on it...no she wants nothing to do with it. Good luck find what fits best for your family.

Well, I'm 6'4 and you can pull the seats up in the back and lean the back of the seat down. (Not all the way but good enough!) One day I went camping with some friends and wasn't comfortable in the tent and went and slept in the cab of the Tundra... there is more room back there than my dads F250 Crew Cab. On long road trips, I always take my truck because friends/family will always push the back seats up and lean them back and fall asleep in an instant. The rear window that slides all the way down is a cool little option too... just keep your cooler right by the back of the bed and grab a water or snacks or whatever else you want to keep back there! That is if you dont have the bed cover... but thats a different story!

I have a 2007 with 110k...couple of quality glitches but otherwise a great truck....I travel to the coast a lot...4 hours each way with 2 chesapeakes on the seat and an english bulldog in the floor...lot's of room....
Price seems real good.

Well after all that, it appears the pricing tool wasn't working right. As described it would be in the $45k range, eliminate the cover and TRD brakes it prices out at $43,323.

How does the price compare to what you paid? The dealer said they could $43,323 for the Platinum 4x4 w/rear seat entertainment.

Prices reflect rebate, which I think is at $2500 right now.
I loved my tundra that I just sold, bullet proof mechanics, nice ride. The ONLY knock..... it is still a half ton suspension, if you are towing anything heavy it is not the best choice. My V8 tundra struggled with my whaler when full of fuel and stuff (approx 7600-8000 lbs and another 750-800 lbs of human cargo) It would tow it, but not well. When I bought this boat I reluctantly sold my Tundra and bought a 3/4 ton truck. BTW, the dealers were tripping over themselves to take my tundra in trade which I sold privately immediately for top dollar! I am not sure what you are towing and TRULY not bashing the Tundra's. They are great trucks, just not heavy duty

What year and engine?
This is contrary to everything I've read - not saying your experience isn't true, just tthat others have towing 8k+ loads with the 5.7 V8 often times with a weight distribution hitch said the Tundra tows without a sweat. Tow capacity is 10k lbs+ so struggling with 7600 lbs would be very surprising. Shit my GX470 towed my nearly 7k lb load okay so I got to believe the Tundra would do a hell of a lot better.

I'm getting close to 18 with my 4.6.....
I bought this truck last year as a year-end close out. I specifically wanted a 4.6 and tow package....as we only tow a few times a month. The benefit has been greater mileage.
Also, it will handle this rig as well as anything else that I would want to tow. I believe the tow limit is 9200#...
Not what the OP wants...but it is a good option.
As far as the new Tundras go....they are in the seventh year of the gen2 design with the '13 models. Definitely time for a new design.
All of these are a far cry from my first Toyota truck....a little HiLux that I bought in 1971. Only had a 1.8 four banger and a 4-spped...lucky I could get add-on AC!!

That's odd to me because i've towed close to 9k lbs of landscape equipment and sod with my 5.7L and it didn't struggle at all. You definitely could tell it was back there but my Tundra towed that load better than my dad's 3/4 ton Ram did the week prior.
My Tundra was a 2009 5.7l. With the rest of the load in a bed with 4 people my loads were pushing 9000lbs. What I noticed was getting pushed if quick braking needed and front end float/bounce on slab highways and bridges. I should have mentioned I do some fairly long distance towing pretty frequently, 1000 mile round trips 5-6 times a year and one 2500 mile round trip once a year as well as lots of short local trips withthe boat . I also pull a 31 foot travel trailer through the mountains of SC,NC and TN. I needed more power and stability. I reread his post, 1see fishinfool pulls 7000lbs. This Tundra should do him well.
Didn't know what he was towing by his first thread. I was simply putting my experience out there on a forum.
Did I mention I loved my Tundra? If they made a heavier suspension model I would have bought it no question. Our other car is a 2005 Sienna minivan that we love. I am a long time Toyota owner. In Fact, I don't know why Toyota does not make a heavier truck. Ford,Chevy and Dodge would be in deep Sh&t!

Yep...great trucks...but I too am puzzled why they have never made a 3/4 ton truck.....
Granted, the gen2 trucks are heavy...and have some of the biggest rotors and brakes. But there is something about the feel in your pants when driving a heavier truck.
My feeling is they have researched the market and are comfortable right where they are.......but here is what Toyota USA president mentioned concerning HD Tundras..
"Why is the Tundra having only limited success against Detroit’s full-sized pickups?Inaba’s Answer: Let’s face it. Tundra competes in a subsegment of full-sized pickups. It does pretty good. The simple situation is with the market collapsing and fuel prices going up, it hinders us from being more aggressive and not reaching the volume where we bounce from there. We are not disappointed. We are not 100% happy, but we are not discouraged.
So that doesn't say much....

I read that you can beef up the rear suspension to include adding Firestone airbags and by all accounts this coupled with a weight distribution hitch really improves how the truck handles towing a heavy load.
My old boat/load was close to 7k lbs, new load is likely to be north of that pushing 9k lbs.
I have a buddy who uses a bed mounted camper for hunting trips, a very heavy bed payoad.
He put in airbags and he really liked the improvement. Not sure what make they were. His Tundra is a 2009.

That's completely understood why you stepped up to the next class of truck. While I love my Tundra, it does have it limits and the more often those limits are pushed the more likely something will go wrong. For this reason (and also because I want to build a bigger off-road truck) I picked up an '02 F350 7.3L to use on the heavy hauls with my dad's landscape company.
While i've been slowly buying beefier suspension for the Tundra I would not want to push it with the distance and cargo you're carrying, plus the fact that it's lifted over 9" now lowers the towing capacity. There was talk at one time of Toyota putting their concept diesel Tundra on the market but once the US economy started going down they racked that idea. Can't wait on till they do, I'll be one of the first to get one.

The Firestone airbags do help a lot the ride and rear sag but I still don't think it helps with the towing capabilities other than raising the rear which shifts some of the weight back to the front for more solid steering. If you're pushing 9k constantly and long distance, it can be done with the Tundra depending on your driving but here's a great Tundra forum with search results on towing:

I tow about 8000 lbs with my tundra and am confident in the truck. I actually prefer to tow my my tundra over my Dad's previous 2004 2500HD gas.
My tundra doesn't squat like my previous 2006 1500 silverado and it does "buck" like the 04 2500HD. His 04 2500 also had 4.10 rear in it with the older 4 speed tranny so she didn't like highway speeds as it always either constantly fell out of OD or was at over 3000rpms when locked out of OD. I haven't towed with my Dads new 2500 duramax but it seems much smoother to drive than his previous 2500. The motor is a beast and the tranny is nicer too.
