I found a newer hull that I'm interested in that had the motor stolen off of it. Does anyone have any advice on purchasing a used outboard? I would like to find a newer Yamaha 4 stroke 200 or 225. Are there any places in the RI or MA area that sells used outboards? Thanks in advance for any info.

Have you checked craigslist? I've seen a lot of engines advertised there...just be careful. One other thought I had was to try and find someone who wants to repower...you might be able to work out a good deal for both of you...or find a beater with decent power on a crappy hull...

I may just get a few quotes for a new motor. At least then I would have a warranty. Does anyone know what a new Yamaha f225 installed would cost approximately? Controls and gauges are already on the boat.

You'll pay a little over $19K to have a F225 installed. I think you can pick a new F225 up for around $18K. With tax and install it'll be over $19k.

Stay away from the outboard exchange guy in CT. I got a big screwing on one of his so-called re-manufactured motors. Very amateur operation.

Try Bass Boat Central. Some pro fishermen get motors as compensation from sponsors then sell them for great deals. I bought a brand new 225 for 10K in the crate from a bass pro from Missouri. Engine was shipped from Bombardier to 3A marine where I had it installed. They also sometimes have used motors sold privately, worth a sniff.
