My two owner 1988 21' Steiger Craft was re-powered with a 1998 Honda BF130 which has served the prior owner and myself (since 2006) reliably for 14 years. Last month the engine finally failed to start for the first time.
After troubleshooting and finding that the high pressure fuel pump was not running I took the engine into the local dealer and they confirmed that the fuel pump had seized.
They also informed me that there had been a product upgrade / service bulletin on these engines back in early 2000's which resulted in the installation of an upgraded fuel pump and engine mounted fuel de-aerating filter/separator which should have all been done under warranty.
The dealer phoned in my engine information and found that the original owner / re-powering dealer had never registered the engine into the warranty program and as a result it was never repaired.
Honda was willing to provide the parts and labor to repair my engine for free even when it was this far out of warranty.
I just want to share this with you and say as a result i will probably never buy another brand of engine in the future. (Hopefully this BF130 will run for another 14 years.)
