The Boating Forum - Pricing on 1999 Pursuit 2870

I saw this listing going for 39K. From pictures, looks like in decent shape. If survey checks out good, is this a good buy? I'm probably going to ask for a lower price. I know reputation of Pursuit is good and 0X66 is old technology but still good motor. Thoughts? Thanks.

1999 Pursuit 2870 Center Console
2870 Pursuit loaded with electronics and 450hrs on 2001 Yamaha 225's. New Raymarine ST70 autopilot, Raymarine DS 400X Fish Finder, Raymarine SL70C 24 mile radar and GPS, Garmin 128GPS, and 2 VHF's. All new fuel hoses and motors have just been serviced.

Depends on alot really.Trailer included? What kind of electronics and are they updated? maintenance, etc, etc, etc... Could be a great deal or a money pit. Survey will help. Yes, Pursuit is at the top of the food chain. Price sounds pretty much on par, maybe a bit north. JMO

Yes it comes with triple axle trailer. From the pictures, electronics looks physically good. Won't know until I see it in person. Boat is 180 miles away so want to find out all I can before making the trip. Engines are 2001. If hull is solid, I'm thinking about using the 0x66 until it blows then re-power. I was thinking about asking 35K because age of boat and motor.

Maybe offer 30 to 32.
Bought 2002 freshwater boat, ox250's less than 200 hours, trailer, boat in great shape just dirty and a little neglected, for 40k three years ago.
Great boat you can't go wrong with Pursuit.

Pursuit has a great reputation and are great looking boats. 450 hours on 01 motors is very little use. Good luck with the purchase.

Had a 2870 with T225 yamaha 0x66 Boat was well built & designed sold it in 2005 for 50K
Boat was great in the Key's. The engines and oxygen sensors a total nightmare. Good luck with the boat,

Is it worth keeping the motors or sell them on ebay and repower? I've heard good and bad about the 0x66. The term "bullet proof" comes up often as does problematic oxygen sensor and vst issues. I don't think anything mechanical is bullet proof, especially in the harsh marine environment. Soon or later, something will happen. Good scheduled maintenance helps. :)

They are great motors and easy to maintain. The only downside is the fuel burn, but the cost difference of new motors will buy a lot of fuel.

Replaced my ox66's the second year I owned the 2870. Although they are supposed to be one of the most reliable outboards of all time, mine were not.
Installed 2011 Mercury Optimax 250's, so far so good.

39k is a good deal especially with the trailer. Dont let anyone kid you, the 225 OXs are one of the best motors ever built...easy to maintain and parts are inexpensive. Look at the test reports on the Pursuit website for 4 strokes, I have the test report with the 2 strokes, closer than most people think on the 2870
