Im heading out to a buddy's house in setauket L.I. For some striper fishing. We plan on launching out of port Jeff and I was wondering where are the good spots for either blues or stripers? What lure worked best? Trolling or jigging?

O.K. I'll say it first. How do you fish for strippers? Do you chum with dollar bills? Do you have to buy glasses of "champagne"?
Just wondering.

my wife would kill me.....snapper blues?

in all seriousness, blues eat ANYTHING, especially if shiny, loud, fast moving.

bass are much more particular. if you target bass, you may get blues if they don't bite through your line. if you target blues, you are less likely to catch bass.

Try area of buoy 11, we often anchor on the ledge and let clams drift over. Stratford shoal, (Middle Grounds lighthouse) Troll around the lighthouse, Very rocky, very Bassie!! Small porgies, Bunker chunks. We doo pretty well there. Black or green umbrellas if trolling. when it gets dark, hightail it over to PJ harbor, anchor on west side north of the power plant, drift clams or bunker near the grassy areas. If you happen to snag up my 150.00 dive light, please PM me and I'll come pick it up. Thanks, good luck. Oh, and bring bug spray, you'll need it. If you get bored, Motor around to the southeast corner of the harbor, throw some Rebel Floaters at the Stone House, you'll know it when you see it. Nice fishing in the area, just gotta work for them sometimes.

Thank you shark for the good info. If I snag that light, it's all yours.
